JAKARTA —– As the evening began to draw to a close, the young people of Jakarta began to arrive in droves. On Sunday (June 12, 2022), Dompet Dhuafa presented Kurbanaval at the Sarinah Thamrin Pavilion in Central Jakarta. The Meat & Greet THK Dompet Dhuafa event was enthusiastically welcomed by hundreds of visitors to the country’s creative industry center.
In line with its theme, Meat & Greet with Dompet Dhuafa, at this year’s Kurbanaval 2022, Dompet Dhuafa presented a menu of processed sacrificial meat while also greeting the Dompet Dhuafa super volunteers. A top Indonesian chef, Chef Aiko Sarwosri, was present to share tips on processing sacrificial meat and to share his culinary creations with visitors. Additionally, Dompet Dhuafa’s super volunteers, such as Chiki Fawzi, Enau, and Mr. Jarwo, were also present to share their stories and spread joy with their captivating performances.
During a talk show about Dompet Dhuafa’s Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) 2022 program, Dompet Dhuafa’s Director of Resource Mobilization (Remo) Etika Setiawanti said that there are three benefits to the #JadiManfaat tagline promoted by Dompet Dhuafa for this year’s THK. First, because sacrifice is a commandment prescribed by Islam as a form of devotion to Allah SWT. Second, THK has social value. This is because THK encourages the community to participate in the good deeds of sacrifice and distribute it to remote areas. Third is economic value. This is because with THK, Dompet Dhuafa has empowered farmers and ranchers so that they can prosper.
“Friends, there is no need to worry. Dompet Dhuafa has also collaborated with various parties to facilitate qurbani and report the results transparently. Dompet Dhuafa is present in various shopping centers, and can also be accessed online at dompetdhuafa.org and other online marketplaces. Everything is done transparently. Sacrificial animal donors will also receive notifications regarding where their animals were slaughtered and distributed,” explained Etika.
THK Dompet Dhuafa Chairman Dian Mulyadi added in his presentation that Dompet Dhuafa is targeting the distribution of 40,000 sheep/goats (doka) across 34 provinces in Indonesia this year. The criteria for distribution locations are 3T (Outermost, Disadvantaged, Frontier) areas that experience a deficit of sacrificial meat, post-disaster areas, as well as several areas abroad that experience social conflict and food crises.
“Sacrificing through Dompet Dhuafa means contributing to the economic welfare of local farmers in particular. Our research institute, IDEAS, noted that until now, sacrificial animals have mostly been concentrated in major cities. With the Tebar Hewan Kurban program, Dompet Dhuafa empowers and purchases sacrificial animals from local farmers to reach nearby locations where sacrificial activities are rare,” he added.
Meanwhile, regarding the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Dompet Dhuafa ensures that the animals to be sacrificed are free from any disease. The DD Farm Dompet Dhuafa livestock centers have implemented strict supervision in collaboration with relevant government agencies and veterinarians. In addition, Dompet Dhuafa also complies with all forms of instructions and provisions for the implementation of qurbani by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
Chiki Fawzi, who has participated in the distribution of qurbani animals and meat to remote areas several times, recounted that there was once a remote area in Ronting, NTT, where there had been no qurbani animal slaughter for years. Dompet Dhuafa’s arrival in the area marked the first time that sacrificial meat was distributed to the residents there. Another plus point of Dompet Dhuafa’s THK program is that the meat is distributed wrapped in leaves or containers in accordance with local customs. This ensures that this extraordinary act of worship does not pollute the environment.
