Held Agent of Change Training, LKC Dompet Dhuafa Together with the Ministry of Health and the West Jakarta Health Office Efforts to Improve the Quality of Life of the Elderly

JAKARTA — To improve and manage the degree of health and quality of life of the elderly in Indonesia, the Free Health Service or Layanan Kesehatan Cuma-Cuma (LKC) Dompet Dhuafa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the West Jakarta Health Office carried out Agent of Change (AOC) Cadre Training and Elderly Screening on Tuesday (23/5/2023) in the Wijayakusuma room of the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office.

The AOC Cadre Training this time was divided into several materials. Among them are the Elderly Health Promotion Program, Dompet Dhuafa Health Movement Health, and Elderly Health Screening. On that occasion, the participants were also trained to practice directly simulating early detection of health for the elderly, such as weight, height, blood sugar at any time, uric acid, cholesterol, and at-a-glance screening (cognition, mobilization, nutrition, visual impairment, hearing and mental health).

According to Juperta Panji Utama, Head of the Philanthropy Division of Yayasan Rumah Sehat Terpadu (YRST), Indonesia in the 2035-2040 period will experience a demographic bonus with an increase in the number of elderly people. So, to avoid the threat of this situation, it is important to focus on the health of the elderly from now on.

LKC Dompet Dhuafa today trains elderly AOC cadres to increase insight by inviting resource persons who are trained in this field so that in the future, this training can be a provision for cadres who will go directly into the field in efforts to early detect elderly health and record health in the elderly, to be able to carry out effective prevention, to create an independent and healthy elderly,” said Panji.

The training was attended by 25 elderly cadres from 8 sub-districts throughout West Jakarta and health workers from the local Health Center. All those who take part in today’s training are targeted to be part of the elderly health mobilizer to create a SMART (Sehat, Mandiri, Aktif, Produktif, dan Bermartabat) elderly.

Furthermore, dr. Ira Nolalingga as the Person in Charge of Productive Age and Elderly of the West Jakarta Health Office explained that routine and periodic checks for the elderly are quite important. The goal is to increase the life expectancy of the elderly. According to him, in the West Jakarta area itself there has been an increase in the number of elderly people.

“It should be remembered that the elderly have the right to be productive in old age. After this training, cadres are expected to be able to apply their knowledge in the community so that the elderly in the region get promotive and preventive examinations, thus increasing the health status of the elderly, “said dr. Ira.

This activity ran from 08:30 to 12:00 WIB was welcomed by trained AOCs who were also participants. The cadres felt that the AOC training material was a place to refresh knowledge of elderly health activities that had been carried out in the community. In addition, this activity is also a place of learning, especially regarding glimpse screening which has yet to be widely done in the community.

“I am delighted that today I was taught about the direct practice of measuring the health of the elderly. Especially regarding calf examinations in the elderly that we have never had anywhere. Hopefully, the materials obtained today can be practised in maintaining the health of the elderly in our area,” said Suryati (67), one of the participants from the Kalideres Health Center.

After this training, screening will be carried out for 338 elderly people which will take place at the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 2 Social Institution in June 2023. The screening was carried out to implement the practice material that has been studied by AOC cadres today. (Dompet Dhuafa/LKC)
