Honoring Orphans Through the Muharram Fest Event

SOUTH TANGERANG — Indonesians consider the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) to be the Day of the Orphans. This celebration has been a tradition in Indonesia for a long time. Dompet Dhuafa, through the Muliakan Yatim (Honor the Orphans) program, is also committed to giving glory to those who have been abandoned by their parents. In order to invite more people to participate in #HonoringOrphans, Dompet Dhuafa together with LootteMart Indonesia held the Muharram Fest event on Eid al-Adha for Orphans, 10 Muharram 1444, which took place at LotteMart Bintaro, South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday (8/8/2022).

The series of events in collaboration with LotteMart Indonesia was opened by the hadroh team, then included a symbolic awarding of orphans’ scholarships, the giving of donations, a performance by Trashic from the SMART Ekselensia students, fairy tale performances by Zackanya, and was completed with shopping with orphans. A total of 20 orphans who came from the area around South Tangerang attended the festivities. Not to forget that some of the participants were SMART Ekselensia Indonesia students.

During the shopping event, the orphans were invited to freely choose the items they wanted.

Dompet Dhuafa and orphans are inseparable. Especially in the month of Muharram, there are many agendas aimed at honoring orphans. This time, one of them is shopping with orphans.

“Muharafest is a moment of gratitude to Allah SWT. Hopefully, with the many activities we do, it will become a fortress of our faith. LotteMart is one of our strategic partners. With this synergy, it can be a strong collaboration with LotteMart visitors,” explained Yudha.

Until now, Dompet Dhuafa is still striving so that orphans can be a priority for everyone so that they can be involved in helping in a more powerful, impactful, and widely beneficial way. One of them is by making children who have been orphaned by Covid-19 happy by inviting them to shop for free as a form of caring for them.

“With this joint shopping, it is hoped that these young people will be more diligent in their worship and beneficial to their environment. Hopefully this synergy can develop and can bring blessings for the welfare of the people,” added Yudha.
