Khatam Al-Quran in Ramadan is a goal for many Muslims around the world. If someone manages to complete the Quran in Ramadan, it can be the biggest achievement for him. Moreover, Ramadan is the month of Nuzulul Qur’an, the month when the Quran was revealed.
What are the Reasons for Khatam Al-Qur’an in Ramadan?
Muslims believe that the month of Ramadan is full of blessings. Every deed done in this month will be multiplied, including reading and reciting the Qur’an. In addition, in Indonesia, the tradition of tadarus after Tarawih prayer in mosques has taken root and this creates a sense of comfort and kinship that wants to always be repeated during Ramadan. So it’s no wonder that Muslims in the country are always eager to memorize the Qur’an in this holy month?
In addition to these reasons, here are a number of reasons why Muslims are eager to recite the Qur’an in Ramadan.
1. The Rewards of Reciting the Quran are Multiplied
All Muslims know that Ramadan is the month where all deeds will be multiplied by Allah SWT. This includes when we read the Qur’an until we finish it in this month. Outside of Ramadan, the reward for reading the Qur’an itself is tenfold!
“Every letter of the Qur’an that is read will be rewarded tenfold.” (HR. Tirmidhi)
Well, in the month of Ramadan this reward will be even greater. Therefore, let’s try and make a sincere effort to recite the Quran this month, so that we can accumulate great rewards and blessings throughout the month!
2. Khatam Al-Quran Strengthens Our Relationship with the Holy Book
As the holy book, the Quran is the main guide and guideline for Muslims in living life in the world. It offers wisdom, comfort, reassurance, and guidance to achieve happiness in this world and the hereafter.
Reading the entire contents of the Quran will make us understand better because we can deepen its meaning and reflect on the words of Allah SWT. By doing so, the words of Allah will sink into our souls and we will begin to believe in them more strongly.
3. Khatam Al-Quran Equals Practicing the Prophet’s Sunnah
Friends, the Prophet Muhammad SAW always completed the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan, you know! We certainly need to emulate this behavior of the Prophet! Because by following his sunnah, not only do we get the reward, but also our faith is getting stronger.
From Ibn Abbas ra, he said: “The Messenger of Allah was the most generous in kindness, and he was even more generous in Ramadan when Jibril met him. Jibril met him every night in Ramadan, and they both mudarasah (studied and repeated) the Qur’an.”
(HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
The above Hadith shows that the Prophet always read and repeated the Qur’an in Ramadan with the angel Gabriel. In fact, in the last years of his life, the Prophet memorized the Qur’an twice during Ramadan.
Fatimah ra said: “The Prophet whispered to me, ‘Gabriel used to teach me (repeat) the Qur’an once every year, but this year he did it twice. I do not see it except as a sign that my end is near’.”
(HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
4. Khatam Al-Quran Brings Inner Peace
Reading the Qur’an during Ramadan purifies the heart, clears the mind, and brings inner peace. The more we recite the Qur’an, the more we will feel connected to Allah and gain peace from His words. Through reading the Qur’an, we will know that Allah loves us very much and protects us with His laws, not the other way around.
Prayer to Ask for Mercy After Khatam Al-Quran
Friends, when Allah swt has given us the ease and ability to finish reading the Qur’an in Ramadan, don’t forget this prayer!
Scholars recommend that we offer sincere prayers after we have finished reciting the Qur’an, especially in Ramadan. This is because this is the exact time when our supplication will be accepted and includes the mustajab time.
You can recite the supplication “allaahummaar hamni bilqur’aan..” or the Supplication for Mercy through the Qur’an.
Meaning: “O Allah, bestow Your mercy upon me through this noble Qur’an and make it my guide, source of light, guidance and mercy. O Allah, help me to remember what I have forgotten from the noble Qur’an and give me understanding of what I do not know. Allow me to recite it at night and day, and make it my main source of support in all matters. O Lord of the Worlds.”
Apart from reciting the Quran, there are many other good deeds that we can do in Ramadan. One of them is the charity of feeding the fasting person. Let’s spread goodness in the month of Ramadan with Dompet Dhuafa!
