The press conference was held to provide the public with the latest information regarding the condition of the humanitarian fleet and the Indonesian delegates currently sailing in the Mediterranean Sea.
A number of journalists from various media outlets attended the press conference to follow the developments regarding the humanitarian volunteers, who are reported to have begun entering a high-risk interception zone in international waters. During the forum, the GPCI Media Crisis Center also shared communication updates received from volunteers and the family networks of the humanitarian mission participants.
GPCI Steering Committee Coordinator Maimon Herawati, who joined online from Turkey, stated that the Global Sumud Flotilla is currently on high alert. According to her, several ships have begun experiencing communication disruptions and reports of interception while carrying out their mission to break the Gaza blockade.
“We continue to monitor communication updates from the ships underway. The situation on the ground is evolving and is a serious concern for all humanitarian volunteers,” said Maimon Herawati during the press conference.
In addition to Maimon Herawati, the press conference also featured GPCI Steering Committee members Ahmad Juwaini and Irvan Nugraha. On this occasion, GPCI stated that there are nine Indonesian citizens (WNI) participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla mission, distributed across several different ships. The Indonesian delegation consists of humanitarian volunteers and journalists participating in the aid delivery mission to Gaza.
Ahmad Juwaini noted that GPCI has taken various coordination steps through diplomatic channels, including communication with Indonesian representatives in several countries along the fleet’s transit route.
“We continue to coordinate with various parties to ensure the safety of the Indonesian delegation currently carrying out this humanitarian mission. The safety of all volunteers is our top priority,” he said.
Meanwhile, Irvan Nugraha urged the Indonesian public to continue providing moral support and prayers for the humanitarian volunteers currently on their mission to Gaza.
“This is a humanitarian mission delivering aid to the people of Gaza. We hope the support and prayers of the Indonesian public will continue to flow for the safety of the entire delegation,” said Irvan.
The press conference also featured a live video link from the Indonesian delegation still aboard the ship. During the call, the delegation provided an update on the current voyage conditions in the Mediterranean Sea, including surveillance and the movement of ships around the humanitarian fleet.
