Livelihoods affected by Galodo, Dompet Dhuafa provides food assistance

WEST SUMATRA — Apart from the damage to houses, bridges, places of worship and even the death toll, there are other impacts of the galodo sweep that occurred in West Sumatra. One of them was felt by Asmanidar (68) who lives in Jorong Tigo Ninik, Nagari Parambahan, Lima Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency.

She admitted that her house was not badly affected by the galodo. However, his farmland was also severely affected. As the only land for the family’s livelihood, now his garden is no longer there.

“Our children, three grandchildren, our family, Alhamdulillah, are safe. But the garden was lost, now it’s ruined. There was a mahogany, avocado, clove plantation, and even the family grave was also lost. The only source of livelihood for our family was the garden,” said Asmanidar.

Yusnidar (65) also experienced this bitter experience. While taking care of her sick child, she saved herself and her family from the galodo.

“That night (galodo) the lights went out, it was like an earthquake, mud water entered the house, we ran to the upper mosque. We stayed in the mosque for two weeks,” said Yusnidar (65).

Together with the Singgalang Branch, Dompet Dhuafa distributed donor assistance to survivors in the galodo-affected areas of Tanah Datar Regency, Saturday (07/20/2024). The assistance included 100 Al-Qur’an, 100 prayer tools and 2.5 tons of rice distributed to beneficiaries in the Nagari Sungai Jambu area, Pariangan District; Nagari Rambatan, Rambatan District; Nagari Parambahan, Lima Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency.

It is known, one of the impacts of the flash flood is that the main road connecting Padang and Bukittinggi is also completely paralyzed. Among them is the Jambu River route. Along the river, there are several new buildings, such as rest areas, shops, restaurants and other family tourism centers.
