LANGKAT, NORTH SUMATRA -— As Eid al-Adha approaches, Dompet Dhuafa is increasingly busy preparing its Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) program across the country. This includes North Sumatra, where the monitoring and evaluation team from Jakarta has begun preparing sacrificial animals even in locations that are quite difficult for the general public to reach.
One such location is the sacrificial animal slaughter and distribution site in Jaring Halus Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. On Saturday (9/7/2022), Dompet Dhuafa began distributing sacrificial animals from DD Farm North Sumatra to be slaughtered on Eid al-Adha 1443, which fell on Sunday (10/7/2022). The fact that Jaring Halus Village can only be accessed by water did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Dompet Dhuafa team to distribute sacrificial animals from donors.
The sacrificial animals, consisting of 30 sheep/goats, were transported using a boat owned by one of the local fishermen. With the help of the local community, the Dompet Dhuafa THK team finally arrived in Jaring Halus Village with the sacrificial animals that would be slaughtered the next day. The community enthusiastically worked together to help distribute the sacrificial animals.

The enthusiasm of the people of Jari Halus Village is not unfounded. Jaring Halus Village itself rarely receives sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha celebrations. In fact, the population of Jaring Halus Village is more than 900 people, the majority of whom are Muslim. Because the majority of the community are fishermen, the consumption of meat in this village is quite low compared to other areas in Langkat Regency.
“In Jaring Halus Village, sacrificial animals are rarely slaughtered during Eid al-Adha celebrations. So we targeted this location as one of the areas for the distribution of sacrificial animals this year. In fact, we have been distributing to Jaring Halus Village for approximately 3 (three) years. Although access is quite difficult, it is not an obstacle for us to deliver the donations of the sacrificial donors to the remote areas of the country,” explained Sulaiman, Head of the Dompet Dhuafa Waspada Branch.
The arrival of Eid al-Adha provides an opportunity for the people of Jaring Halus Village to enjoy the blessings of sacrificial meat. Thanks to the generous donations made through Dompet Dhuafa, the residents of Jaring Halus Village will receive an equitable distribution of sacrificial meat during Eid al-Adha 1443 H through this year’s THK program.

Later, on Eid al-Adha, there will be 11 slaughter and distribution points for sacrificial animals in North Sumatra. A total of 253 doka have been prepared for distribution in North Sumatra this year. The public need not worry about the increasing outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, as all sacrificial animals at Dompet Dhuafa have passed the Quality Control (QC) conducted some time ago.
