BURU ISLAND, MALUKU —-— The atmosphere on the night before Eid al-Adha in Waspait Village, Buru Island, Maluku, was filled with the residents’ enthusiasm as eight qurbani cows arrived on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) evening. The arrival of the qurbani animals was greeted with great fanfare by the community, from children to adults who had been waiting since the afternoon.
Residents gathered at the arrival site to watch the qurbani animals being unloaded from the transport vehicle. The children seemed the most excited, following every step of the process—from the cows’ arrival to their successful unloading—in preparation for the qurbani the following day.
Cheers of joy could be heard from the children who were watching the arrival of the qurbani animals firsthand.
“Yeayyy, we got a cow,” said several children with happy smiles.

The residents of Waspait Village did not just watch; they also helped one another unload the cattle. A spirit of mutual cooperation was evident as the community worked together to ensure all the cattle could be unloaded safely.
The presence of sacrificial cattle on the night of the Takbiran brought a special joy to the people of Waspait. For them, the Eid al-Adha celebration is not merely an annual religious observance but also a cherished occasion for community togetherness anticipated every year.
That night, the village atmosphere grew even more festive with a torchlight parade joined by the residents. The light of the torches illuminated the village streets and added warmth to the evening leading up to Eid al-Adha.
In addition to the torchlight parade, the booming sounds of bamboo cannons could be heard in various corners of the village. This traditional bamboo game, which produces explosive sounds, serves as a unique local entertainment for the community in welcoming the holiday.
