“It takes 5 (five) hours by land to get to the Sampit area from Palangkaraya, the capital of Central Kalimantan. Then it continues by using a klotok boat or a motorized wooden boat for 5 (five) hours crossing 2 (two) large rivers, Mentaya and Katingan, passing through canals or small rivers to arrive at Subur Indah Village. Not infrequently in the Mentaya river, there are crocodiles seen by residents. This is our last base camp as well as the representative office of PT Pagatan Usaha Makmur,” explained Roby Suryadi as Senior Officer of Health Services and Health Emergency Response LKC Dompet Dhuafa.

Various health services were presented in this activity targeting the elderly and toddlers. The free medical services provided included basic examinations, non-communicable disease (NCD) screening, and tests for uric acid, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Furthermore, there was screening for the growth and development of infants and toddlers and the provision of nutrition packages and hygiene kits. There was also a health promotion on clean and healthy lifestyle behavior (PHBS).

“Access to health services is uneven in areas with a wide range of coverage, limited facilities and health workers. Efforts are needed to reach out to the community with mobile and direct access to health services,” said Roby.

The collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and PT Pagatan Usaha Makmur (PUM) seeks to make it easier for the community to access quality health services.
