Soge Pacitan Beach Mitigation and Restoration of Natural Sustainability

JAWA TIMURDisaster Management Center (DMC) Dompet Dhuafa made a sea wall with a pile of boulder stones on the shores of Soge Beach located in Sidomulyo Village, Ngadirejo District, Pacitan Regency, East Java, on Monday (16/01/2023).

“Tsunami Ready: Pacitan Disaster Response Resilient Area” is the name of this activity. The seawall is built on the seashore with a pile of boulder stones to protect the coastline and boost the sediment supply. Mangrove trees or hard trees can be planted in the silt. Preparation of concrete structures for sediment trapping. The concrete structures are also intended to serve as a coastal protector against erosion. Furthermore, preparing this concrete building is beneficial for resisting river currents during floods and sea tides and rehabilitating coastal estuaries.

The purpose of the buis concrete is also to maintain the coastline as a coastal protector against erosion. In addition, the preparation of this concrete is also useful for resisting river currents during floods and sea tides and restoring coastal estuaries.

Soge Beach, a popular tourist destination, has Latin risks that many people need to be aware of and coastal characteristics prone to abrasion. This is due to the shoreline being close to the power of the south sea water waves, which causes the coastal land around the estuary to fluctuate, making its location unknown.

An estuary of the Soge River winds around the beach sand on this beach, extending to a radius of approximately 150 meters in the eastern section of the beach. The river’s mouth generates a tiny lake in the area. Because the tide phenomena does not entirely pull seawater to the centre of the sea. Because sand dunes prevent seawater from accessing the area.

On the one hand, during the rainy season, the estuary at Soge Beach changes places. It flows from the north and is directly adjacent to the mainland, which is pond sand.

The river’s estuary and seawater crush the pond’s sand. The phenomena of river estuary displacement, which frequently changes the contour of the land, is mostly impacted by the strength of the tidal wave and is not caused by the Soge River’s overflow.

“That is the obstacle during the wet season. The issue is that the river overflows to the west end “Sukandar, a Soge Beach coastal dweller, agreed.

Simultaneously, Suyanto, a resident of Sidomulyo Village, related his story while visiting Soge Beach.

“This is called the Soge River (Dong Gombang). From my childhood until today, there have been floods and it used to be said that for our ancestors here the problem was pancer. The flow of the river that penetrates the sea is called pancer. Frequent change of place. It used to be to the east to the cliff. Because natural factors can change as they are today,” said Suyanto.

Sea abrasion then caused a major flood that occurred in Sidomulyo Village, Pacitan Regency, East Java.

“This activity seeks to compile concrete buis structures and plant mangroves and hard trees where the purpose is to protect or overcome coastal damage and increase sediment supply or trap sediments where the sediment can be planted with mangrove trees or hard trees,” explained Abdul Aziz, one of the Community Resilience and Advocacy Team.

“One of the next goals is to maintain the coastline as a coastal protector against erosion and wave runoff from rivers,” Abdul Aziz added.

Pangarso Suryotomo, Director of Preparedness of the National Disaster Management Agency or Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB), said that this program could target more places and expand people’s resilience to natural disasters.

“Hopefully, Dompet Dhuafa  is not only in Sidomulyo Village. Because almost more than 70 kilometers of coastal stretches in Pacitan can also be supported by the same. So that the people on the South Coast of Pacitan have resilience in facing disasters and of course also how to be economically empowered,” said Pangarso Suryotomo as Director of Preparedness of BNPB.

“Thank you again to Dompet Dhuafa for contributing to the resilience of rural communities through programs synergized by institutions and the central and local governments,” continued Pangarso Suryotomo.

In addition, DMC Dompet Dhuafa collaborated with INDOFEST 2022 in the Tree Alms campaign in early September 2022. The collaboration became a program to plant 1000 mangrove trees and clean action in the coastal area of Pacitan.

“Alhamdulillah, we have received assistance from Dompet Dhuafa and now it has been installed. Hopefully, in the future, the mangroves will grow well. We are ready to take care of it,” Sukandar concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa/DMC/AMR)
