Spirit for Sumatra, Students of Al Syukro Universal Islamic College Make Donations Through Dompet Dhuafa

JAKARTA —–— The spirit of solidarity for Sumatra continues, with various Dompet Dhuafa networks joining forces for Sumatra, one of which is the Dompet Dhuafa school network, namely Al Syukro Universal Islamic School. On Tuesday (12/16/2025), representatives of Al Syukro students handed over donations to Dompet Dhuafa for survivors of the flash floods in Sumatra.

The donation originated from the compassion of students at Al Syukro Universal Islamic School, spanning all levels from kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school, who set aside their weekly allowances. In addition to the students, teachers, staff, and parents also contributed, resulting in a total donation of Rp.42,688,670.

“This assistance may not be significant. The aim is to cultivate their empathy and sense of humanity toward our brothers and sisters in Sumatra. We hope it can be useful there for basic needs such as clothing, food, and shelter. Hopefully, this fundraising effort will not stop here. It will definitely continue because there will be many needs there, especially since many schools have been destroyed, so it seems that we will not stop here,” said Cici Kurniasih, Director of Al Syukro Universal School.

Three weeks after the flash floods, Sumatra has yet to recover. In many areas, electricity is still out. Clean water remains scarce. Damaged roads make it difficult for aid to reach those in need. More than a thousand lives have been lost, hundreds more are still missing, and hundreds of thousands of people are still living in shelters.

Dompet Dhuafa will continue to work alongside the community, including the Al Syukro Universal Islamic School, to support the gradual recovery process. Yudha Andilla, Retail Fundraising Manager at Dompet Dhuafa, commends the social initiatives initiated by the students of Al Syukro.

“Alhamdulillah, Dompet Dhuafa has once again received kindness, this time from the initiative and concern of the students of Al Syukro Universal Islamic School. We appreciate and express our deepest gratitude to Al Syukro. May this kindness continue,” said Yudha.

Furthermore, Cici explained that in addition to encouraging children to donate, the students of Al Syukro showed great empathy. They created their own content on Instagram for junior high school students as an effort to spread the spirit of caring and encourage donations. The fundraising was opened by the Student Council, accompanied by various creative content that showed the students’ concern for the victims of the disaster in Sumatra.
