Charity is one of the deeds that is highly recommended by Allah SWT and exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Amazingly, there are many benefits of Ramadan charity that have a positive impact on the life of a Muslim. Any good deed in the month of Ramadan has a great reward, including charity.
“Whoever draws closer to Allah with a good deed during this month, its value is like that of a deed performed during other months. And whoever performs an obligatory deed during this month, its value is equal to 70 times the value of the same deed performed during other months. The virtue of charity is charity during Ramadan.” (HR. Bukhari Muslim)
For that reason, let’s take a look at the benefits of giving charity in the month of Ramadan that a Muslim will receive in their life. Hopefully, you can practice it soon, my friends!
1. Double Rewards, One of the Benefits of Ramadan Charity
Even though it is a sunnah worship, any worship and good deeds in the month of Ramadan will be multiplied in reward. This includes charity, no matter how small we are able to give, surely Allah SWT knows the intentions in our hearts.
Charity that is given sincerely, sourced from halal wealth, and benefits many people will certainly bring blessings to the recipients and to us as the givers.
2. Charity in the Month of Ramadan Erases Sins
In a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Charity erases sins as water extinguishes fire.” (HR Tirmidzi)
As humans, we inevitably have many sins. These can be minor sins that we are often unaware of, or major sins that we often commit consciously. Giving alms in the month of Ramadan is a great opportunity to erase our sins.
3. Increasing the Blessings of Wealth
Allah SWT says in the Quran through many verses that charity is not something that will harm humans. Charity will actually increase sustenance and the blessings of wealth.
“And whatever you spend, Allah will replace it, and He is the best of providers.” (QS Saba: 39)
“Indeed, those who give charity, both men and women, and lend to Allah a good loan, will be multiplied (in reward) for them, and they will have a great reward.” (QS Al Hadid: 18)
The above verse shows that charity is likened to a loan to Allah SWT and Allah will return it many times over. Who would not want to get such a profit? Of course, everyone would want it. Moreover, the reward for this good deed is immediately replaced by Allah SWT.
4. The Doors of Heaven Open for Muslims Who Give Charity
Life in heaven is something that Muslims dream of and long for. By giving alms, heaven becomes more open to those who sincerely give their wealth in the way of Allah.
“A person who gives two pieces of wealth in the way of Allah will be called by one of the gates of heaven: ‘O servant of Allah, come here to enjoy your reward’. If he is from among those who like to pray, he will be called from the door of prayer; if he is from among the mujahideen, he will be called from the door of jihad; if he is from among those who like to give alms, he will be called from the door of almsgiving.” (HR. Bukhari & Muslim)
We never know which door of heaven will open for us. For that reason, as Muslims, it is obligatory for us to perform as many acts of worship as possible so that the gates of heaven will open for us.
5. Giving Peace of Mind and Soul
People who give charity will have a much calmer and more devout heart. By giving charity often, we will not regret it in the hereafter when Allah SWT questions us about all our deeds in life.
“And spend some of what We have provided you before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only You would delay me for a little while, then I would give charity and be among the righteous.’” (QS. Al Munafiqun: 10)
Before regretting, give charity now, whatever you can and as much as you can. It is never too late to start, except when death is already upon us.
