WAMENA, PAPUA — Walesi Village, Assotipo District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, is one of the distribution points for Dompet Dhuafa’s Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) program. On the second day of Eid al-Adha or the first day of Tasyrik, Monday (July 11, 2022), the DD Papua Qurbani Animal Distribution team crossed over to the Wamena area. The access route was certainly not easy. In addition to the limited population of qurbani animals, a Hercules aircraft belonging to the local Indonesian National Armed Forces had to be chartered to deliver the animals to their destination. For reasons of efficiency, time, and cost, Dompet Dhuafa purchased cattle from local farmers for sacrifice.
Ustadz Nurul, a member of Dompet Dhuafa’s network of empowerment preachers (Cordofa) who is currently stationed in Wamena, oversaw the entire THK process in this location. He said that the sacrifice from Dompet Dhuafa is a moment eagerly awaited by the people of Papua, including the Muslims of Wamena. The people there find it difficult to obtain meat.
“Many people here only consume beef or goat meat when there is a sacrifice,” he said.

Evidence #Benefits Dompet Dhuafa is present for the people of Papua. Islam is still a minority religion there, accounting for 15% of the total population of 4.3 million. The presence of THK is also a form of empowerment because the sacrificial animals are purchased directly from local farmers, so that the benefits can be expanded and bring smiles of happiness.
“Alhamdulillah, we received a portion of the sacrificial animals from Dompet Dhuafa. We are very happy because we can eat together with our family and roast stones,” said Mr. Muhammad, a member of the Dani tribe.

Umayra Maulida Sabatiyah, Head of the Papua Branch of DD, said that the Papua Dompet Dhuafa Sacrificial Animal Distribution Team (THK) of Dompet Dhuafa Papua this year (1443 H / 2022 M) distributed a total of 20 sacrificial animals, consisting of 11 cows and 9 sheep, or equivalent to 86 doka (sheep/goats). In addition to Wamena, the team also visited border areas between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, including Keerom and Merauke Regencies. (Dompet Dhuafa/Totok Hadi)
