Together Strengthening Sumatra, Nassa School Shows Real Impact for Survivors

JAKARTA —–— In an effort to support Sumatra’s recovery, Dompet Dhuafa once again acted as an intermediary for the generosity of Nassa School. On Tuesday (December 9, 2025), the Student Council and the Teachers’ Council of Nassa School directly handed over humanitarian donations for flood and landslide survivors in Sumatra at the Dompet Dhuafa Headquarters in Jakarta. The donations were the result of a collective fundraising initiative launched by the Nassa School Student Council through direct appeals to students and outreach to parents.

This initiative was born out of the awareness that compassion can be instilled from an early age, while also serving as a learning space to be present and make a real impact on others. The donation handover is part of the students’ character education to foster responsibility, empathy, and collaboration skills, including building communication with humanitarian organizations such as Dompet Dhuafa as the party distributing the aid.

Singgih, Deputy Principal of Nassa School in charge of student affairs, expressed his hopes for this collaboration.

“We hope that the children will not only be involved in the fundraising process, but also experience the delivery process firsthand, as well as learn how to build communication and collaboration with the aid distributors,” he said.

Singgih also said that this activity could be a learning medium for students to get involved in humanitarian actions.

“Regarding the delivery of these donations, we have the students deliver them directly, of course under our supervision as mentors. That way, this process can be a complete learning experience for them, not only about giving, but also about responsibility, empathy, and cooperation,” he added.

The visit by the Student Council and Teachers’ Council of Nassa School to the Dompet Dhuafa office also included a sharing session and discussion on the current conditions in the disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. During the visit, Dompet Dhuafa explained the technical process of distributing aid that has been and will be carried out, from emergency response to recovery program plans.

The recovery program includes educational support, psychosocial recovery, economic recovery, and strengthening basic needs, as well as the construction of 1,000 RUMTARA units or temporary houses for disaster survivors.

Shofa Qudus, Head of DMC Dompet Dhuafa, who received the aid from Nassa School directly, expressed her gratitude for the tangible participation of the Nassa School Student Council.

“On behalf of Dompet Dhuafa, I would like to express my gratitude and pride in what our friends at Nassa School have done. This is a step that will have a big impact on Sumatra, considering the dire conditions there,” said Shofa.
