DEPOK, WEST JAVA — Dompet Dhuafa together with Shopee once again channeled the kindness of customers in the Shopee Berbagi Sembako programme on Friday (18/10/2024). Located at Yayasan Hidayah Bangun Indonesia, Depok, which houses orphans and poor children, this programme distributed 20 basic food packages to orphans and residents around the orphanage.

It was a blessed Friday morning for the residents of the orphanage and the neighbouring community. They had gathered enthusiastically since the sun slowly rose, its rays gently greeting the tip of the forehead. Exactly at 09.00 WIB, they were waiting for the distribution of groceries for the Shopee Berbagi Sembako Programme. This brings together the kindness of Shopee users for those in need.

Yayasan Hidayah Bangun Indonesia, established in 2020, houses children from poor and orphaned families. This orphanage is home to around 15 children who need love and care. Here, each child not only gets shelter, but also hope, education, and love that seems to embrace them in the warmth of a new family.

Among them are Ilham, Iqbal and Putri, three siblings who are forced to live at Yayasan Hidayah Bangun Indonesia. Their limited resources forced their mother to become an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) to earn a living, while their father has been gone for a long time.

‘I haven’t met my mum yet, she’s in Dubai, Arabia, cooking, working for my pocket money,’ said the youngest, Putri.

Currently, Putri is studying at BIMBA, while her older brother Iqbal is in grade 1. Her eldest brother, Ilham, was supposed to be in grade 4, but was forced to repeat his education at BIMBA due to an illness that required him to repeat.

‘Ilham used to go to kindergarten, and then he hit his head against a wall, and then he was taken to the doctor, and the doctor told him to put a tube in the back of his head, so he couldn’t go to school, he was supposed to be in grade 4,’ said Iqbal.

In the silence that surrounds their days, Ilham, Iqbal, and Putri must complement and strengthen each other, becoming a lamp in the darkness that greets them. Separated from their mother, they are just the three of them, but the love between them is stronger than the distance.

The collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and Shopee brought new hope to them and other orphanage children. In addition to receiving basic food assistance, they welcomed the arrival of the Dompet Dhuafa team with joy.

‘Delicious and happy, can eat a lot of dong. Usually here eat tuna and then eat chicken,’ said Putri innocently.

‘I’m happy to get groceries, I never got groceries before, this is the first time,’ said Iqbal.
