Warm Food Posts Meet the Food Needs of Refugees in Meunasah Kapa, Bireuen

ACEH — — After distributing food supplies for public kitchens several times, Dompet Dhuafa is now providing an additional service in the form of a Warm Post in Meunasah Kapa, Peusangan District, Bireuen Regency, Wednesday (10/12/2025). This location has become the main evacuation point for all residents of Gampong Kapa who have been affected by flash floods and mudflows from Krueng Peusangan.

A total of 127 families (407 people) are currently still staying at Meunasah Kapa. The village chief of Gampong Kapa explained that all residents of his village were affected by the flood, as the area is located in a river basin (DAS) that serves as the main channel for floodwaters. Not only were residents’ homes damaged and submerged in mud, but public facilities such as the village hall, madrasah, road access, and bridges also suffered significant damage.

Entering the 14th day after the disaster, most residents are still unable to return to their homes. Only a few residents have started to return to their homes. Therefore, Meunasah Kapa has become the center of all activities, from the distribution of aid, management of public kitchens, to health and information services.

“Only a few houses are starting to be habitable, and even those are still not really suitable,” said Keuchik.

Although residents return to their homes every day to clean up the hardening mud, they still have to return to Meunasah at night because their homes are not yet safe. Keuchik said that the public kitchen, which is supported by basic supplies from Dompet Dhuafa, is very helpful in meeting the food needs of the survivors. With the management of the public kitchen, residents can regulate their daily consumption in a regular and equitable manner.

The presence of Pos Hangat complements the food services that previously only focused on three meals a day. This post provides hot drinks and snacks that residents need to maintain their physical condition in the midst of an emergency. This service also provides psychological recovery by creating a warmer and more calming atmosphere for residents who are currently displaced.

In addition to food, other important needs that are still very urgent are clean water and tools to clean the mud that has accumulated in residents’ homes and neighborhoods. This challenge remains the focus of the recovery phase. This is because the longer the mud remains, the harder it becomes.
