World Handwashing Day Campaign a la LKC Central Java Post Cilacap Flood

PURWOKERTO, CENTRAL JAVA — In commemorating World Handwashing Day with Soap every October, LKC (Free Health Services) Dompet Dhuafa Central Java initiated educational actions and health campaigns in the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Gentasari area, Kroya, Cilacap, on Tuesday (22/10/2022).

During October 2022, a series of activities to commemorate World Handwashing Day will be held in 2 (two) districts in Central Java, namely elementary schools in Banyumas Regency and MI in Cilacap Regency. Involving elements of the community and academics, HTCPS 2022 is also supported by Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV) and students from the Koas (clinical year student) Faculty of Dentistry, Jendral Soedirman Purwokerto University.

Two schools at the level of SD and MI were chosen as the target locations for the campaign to jointly change clean living and healthy living behaviors that started early. Like MI Muhammadiyah Sanmunawar Gentasari, Cilacap Regency, it is an MI that becomes a flood subscription every rainy season arrives. Meanwhile, SDN 02 Sumbang Banyumas is one of the schools located in the LKC Dompet Dhuafa Sanitation Healthy Area Program in Central Java. The total number of participants involved in the handwashing with soap movement campaign was 328 students.

In its series, the handwashing movement campaign with soap was also educated on 6 (six) steps to hand washing by a Healthy Outlet doctor, dr. Riyanti Citra Utami. Then there are handwashing practices, educational games with volunteers, distribution of handwashing packages and oral dental health screenings to school students.

The Head of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Sumbang, Amin Bahrun, expressed his gratitude for the cooperation in health promotion activities carried out by Dompet Dhuafa there.

“After being hit by floods recently, the school continues to strive to make health efforts, especially PHBS for all students. So with this good action, we feel very helped by the intervention from Dompet Dhuafa,” said Amin Bahrun.

Meanwhile, Dewi Astuti, A.Md, Keb. as the Chief Executive of LKC Dompet Dhuafa Central Java Health Program, revealed that LKC is committed to continuing to be involved in public health efforts, one of which is in the momentum of Handwashing Day with Soap throughout the World.

“Handwashing with soap (CTPS) is one of the efforts to prevent disease by breaking the chain of germs. Dompet Dhuafa continues to be committed to being part of the government to reduce the prevalence of stunting and increase the role of health cadres through awareness-based health empowerment programs throughout Indonesia,” explained Dewi Astuti.

The commemoration of HCTPS 2022 in Indonesia takes the theme ”Unite for Healthy Clean Hands” and the sub-theme ”The Role of Women in Reducing Stunting through Stop Open Defecation (SBS) and CTPS”.

“One approach involves the role of cadres who women dominate to be able to become agents of change in each village and Posyandu intervention area,” concluded Dewi.
