TUNISIA – A ship participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission was attacked by a drone at the Port of Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia. According to reports, there were no casualties in the incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning (September 9, 2025) local time. All Indonesian delegates participating in the mission were also reported to be safe.
The attacked ship, named “Family Boat,” is one of the main ships in the GSF voyage to Gaza. The ship carried a number of mission leaders, including activist Greta Thunberg. Fortunately, Greta and her colleagues had already disembarked and landed several hours before the attack took place.
“The ship sailed under the Portuguese flag, and all crew and passengers are safe,” said GSF.

According to an official release from GSF, the attack caused a fire that damaged the ship’s main deck and storage room. Currently, an investigation is underway to find out more about this incident. GSF emphasized that this incident will not stop their mission to break the Gaza blockade.
“Currently, a thorough investigation is being conducted. When more information is available, it will be released immediately,” said GSF.
“Acts of aggression aimed at intimidating and thwarting this mission will not deter us from continuing our work. Our peaceful mission to break the siege on Gaza and fight alongside its citizens will continue with determination and resolve,” said GSF.

In response to this incident, the UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine, Francesca Albanese, called for immediate protection for the GSF crew. On the other hand, IGPC Coordinator Husein confirmed that the entire Indonesian delegation was safe. They survived because they were in their respective lodgings when the attack occurred.
“The main ship, Family Boat, appears to have been attacked by a drone in the port of Tunis. Two other ships are on their way to Tunisia and they need immediate protection,” Francesca wrote on X.
“Alhamdulillah, all Indonesian citizens who are delegates in this grand sailing mission are in good condition, because when the incident occurred, the delegates were in their respective lodgings,” said Husein.
In line with that, from a screenshot of an Instagram account uploaded by @maimonherawati1, a lecturer at Padjadjaran University in Bandung as one of the Indonesian delegates to the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy (IGPC), confirmed, “Alhamdulillah, everything is safe. We are still at the hotel. Those on the ship are on night duty.”
She also revealed, “They thought we were retreating. Instead, we’re even more motivated. Bismillah. Please pray for us.”
Regarding the next departure schedule, the Indonesian side is still waiting for the latest information from the GSF committee. Prayers and hopes are expressed that this humanitarian mission can continue without obstacles. (Dompet Dhuafa)
