Morfem Band and Indie Music Fans Distribute Donations to Sumatra through Dompet Dhuafa

JAKARTA —-— Dompet Dhuafa received humanitarian donations from Morfem and Friends to help victims affected by floods and landslides that hit a number of areas on the island of Sumatra at the end of 2025. The donations, totaling Rp116,586,040, were symbolically handed over at the Dompet Dhuafa Philanthropy Building in South Jakarta on Wednesday (12/31/2025). These donations are part of a cross-sector solidarity movement to ease the burden on communities affected by the disasters.

The flash floods and landslides that occurred in succession in several provinces in Sumatra, such as Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, have caused enormous damage. Extreme rainfall triggered flash floods and landslides that destroyed settlements, public facilities, and productive land belonging to residents. Based on the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), as of January 9, 2026, the disasters that hit Sumatra have caused more than 1,180 deaths, 145 missing persons, thousands of injuries, and hundreds of thousands of damaged houses with millions of people directly affected.

At the Impressive Romance 2 for Sumatra event held this time, Morfem Band took an active role in raising awareness by collecting and distributing donations through Dompet Dhuafa. This collaboration is a manifestation of Morfem Band’s concern for the humanitarian crisis in Sumatra, while also encouraging the public not to turn a blind eye to the suffering of disaster victims.

“We initially held this Impressive Romance event as a tribute to Mani Mountfield, the bassist of Stone Roses who recently passed away. But then a national disaster struck Sumatra, so we invited our friends to turn this event into a charity event for Sumatra. We hope to be able to raise funds from our indie band fans,” explained Jimi Multhazam, representative of Morfem Band, recounting the origins of this event.

Jimi also expressed his deep concern over the disaster. His party mourns what our brothers and sisters in Sumatra are going through. Through music and what we have, his party wants to help. The donation may not be large, but the hope is that it can be a source of strength and a reminder that they are not alone.

Furthermore, Jimi hopes that the donations collected can be distributed immediately and accurately, without any obstacles, and used to support various Dompet Dhuafa response and recovery programs in the affected areas.

“This collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa is hoped to reach the disaster-affected areas quickly. The hope is that Dompet Dhuafa will be able to distribute aid to the disaster areas without any obstacles. As we know, many victims there are suffering from hunger as well,” he said.

Dompet Dhuafa, as a humanitarian philanthropic institution, continues to intensify its emergency response and recovery efforts for the survivors of the Sumatra disaster. Since the early stages of the disaster, Dompet Dhuafa has deployed humanitarian teams, volunteers, and local partners to reach the areas most severely affected.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Faqih Syarafaddin, General Manager of ZIS Collection at Dompet Dhuafa, expressed his appreciation for the trust and collaboration shown by Morfem Band.

“Alhamdulillah, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our friends at Morfem for donating the proceeds from their concert ticket sales to the survivors of flash floods and landslides in parts of Sumatra.

Insyaallah, we will provide this assistance in the form of response programs such as the provision of food, medical equipment, public kitchens, and other urgent needs,” he said.

Dompet Dhuafa believes that the impact of disasters is not limited to physical damage, but also leaves behind trauma, loss of livelihoods, and socio-economic challenges that require ongoing assistance. Therefore, in addition to emergency aid, Dompet Dhuafa has also designed recovery and livelihood programs for the affected communities.

“We will try to use it in the form of building Temporary Houses and Emergency Schools for our brothers and sisters in need in the Sumatra region. Once again, we express our gratitude. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more programs running, closer cooperation, so that more people can feel the benefits of this collaboration,” added Faqih.

Through this collaboration, Dompet Dhuafa invites the wider community, communities, and creative industry players to continue to take part in humanitarian movements for the victims of the Sumatra disaster. Support and concern from various parties are believed to accelerate the recovery process and restore hope for survivors.

Dompet Dhuafa remains committed to being a bridge of kindness, distributing donations, and implementing programs that have a real impact on those in need. (Dompet Dhuafa)
