TANGERANG —-— While waiting for the Maghrib call to prayer, the children walked along carrying large, bulging bags. The bags looked so heavy that some of the children struggled to carry them.
The bags bore the word “Matahari,” a well-known retail fashion brand in Indonesia. Each child held one bag in their hands. Yes, they had purchased daily necessities such as clothes, bags, shoes, sandals, headscarves, sarongs, and so on. The clothes filled the bags so much that some items were sticking out.
“Alhamdulillah, Sis, now I have clothes for Eid and a T-shirt to sleep in,” said an 11-year-old boy, Devan Noval Azmi.
Devan immediately showed off the clothes he would wear during the upcoming Eid celebration. With enthusiasm, he demonstrated how the clothes fit his small frame.

In addition to buying clothes, Devan also picked out a bag, sandals, and shoes to complete the outfit he’ll wear on Victory Day. He explained that he bought new clothes because his current ones were starting to get too small, as his body continues to grow and get bigger.
“It’s for my needs, sis. I need clothes because I like them—my clothes are all too small now,” Devan added.
Devan is one of 50 amazing children who had the opportunity to shop and play together through the Dompet Dhuafa Muliakan Yatim Program, in collaboration with Supermal Karawaci, under the theme “Shopping with Amazing Kids” on Wednesday (March 4, 2026).

The children happily participated in the free shopping at Matahari and free play at Timezone. Each received a shopping voucher worth Rp1.3 million for Eid supplies. The series of activities included shopping for Eid supplies at Matahari Department Store, breaking the fast together, and trying out the rides at Timezone.
Devan and the other children said they were very happy to have the opportunity to go shopping.
“I’m happy because I got to shop and play at Timezone. Thank you, big brother. May you always be healthy and blessed with abundance,” said Devan.
In addition, the children also received gifts such as stuffed animals or toys from Timezone, a Quran from Gramedia, and clothes from Sogo. The children also broke their fast with a meal sponsored by Paris Baguette, Beard Papa’s, Roti O, Bogana May May, Hokben, Mochi Mochio, Hop Hop, Ramen 1, and Teh Kotjok.

Devan lost both his parents when he was three years old. Now he lives with his grandmother, aunt, and uncle. In their simple daily life, his grandmother serves as the family’s breadwinner by selling tempeh to provide for all of Devan’s needs. With the meager earnings from her small business, she struggles to ensure her grandson can continue to live a decent life.
“My mom and dad are already in heaven; I was three years old when they passed away. I pray that they enter paradise,” he added.
For Devan, these new items are more than just clothes, a bag, or shoes. Behind them lies simple joy and the hope of celebrating the holiday with confidence. That afternoon, Devan returned home with a smile that never left his face.
