JAKARTA —-— Dompet Dhuafa has once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting freedom and humanitarian efforts in Palestine by sending a humanitarian team to Egypt on Wednesday (May 6, 2026). Held at the Philanthropy Building in South Jakarta, the team’s departure is part of the Global Summit Flotilla international solidarity movement through the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) network.
This mission aims to deliver critical aid to the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing, while also carrying out a humanitarian diplomatic mission to urge the lifting of the blockade that has long isolated Gaza’s residents.
In an interview, Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Board of Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, emphasized that the team’s departure represents the moral responsibility of the Indonesian people.
“This mission is part of Dompet Dhuafa’s decades-long commitment to Palestine. The departing team will join a land aid convoy from Libya heading to Egypt to break through the blockade in Gaza. We hope this initiative is not merely about distributing aid, but also becomes part of the international diplomatic struggle to stop the genocide and support Palestinian independence,” said Ahmad Juwaini.

The distribution of aid by Dompet Dhuafa will take place as part of a large convoy involving participants from 105 countries. One of the team members departing explained that this aid effort is focused on the health sector and long-term food assistance.
“We will be bringing approximately 50 trucks in the convoy, with Dompet Dhuafa contributing three containers filled with medical supplies and food. We are also giving special attention to medical services. Currently, Dompet Dhuafa’s waqf ambulances are already operating in Gaza to assist the wounded, and with the support of our donors, we are committed to continuing to increase the number of medical units there,” he explained.

Nevertheless, the team is aware of the significant challenges awaiting them on the ground. Negotiations with the authorities of neighboring countries, particularly Egypt, are key to successfully delivering aid through the Rafah crossing. In addition, the dynamic geopolitical situation in the Middle East is a factor that the team continues to monitor closely.
On the other hand, other humanitarian personnel added that physical preparation is a top priority, given that the target area is entering the summer season. Mental readiness and communication protocols have also been refined to ensure smooth coordination on the ground.
The send-off for Dompet Dhuafa’s humanitarian team to Gaza was also attended by Rahmad Riyadi, a member of Dompet Dhuafa’s Supervisory Board; Yayat Supriyatna, Secretary of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation; and Herdiansah, Deputy Chair of Dompet Dhuafa’s Executive Board. Also present were members of the executive board, including the Director of Ziswaf Fundraising, Etika Setiawanti, and the Director of Finance & Operations, Tri Estriani, along with staff members.
All Dompet Dhuafa staff members in attendance prayed for the humanitarian team’s safe journey and success in carrying out their mission and returning home. (Dompet Dhuafa)
