BEKASI, WEST JAVA —-— Grief still hangs heavy in a modest home in Sukaragam Village, Serang Baru Sub-district, Bekasi Regency. In a place usually filled with laughter and stories of everyday life, Melani (34) appears to be still deeply immersed in her sorrow as she gazes at memories captured in photographs of her beloved husband, Sukanta (44), who has passed away.

“I’m still sad,” she said softly, as she welcomed the team from Dompet Dhuafa’s Community Service Agency (LPM), who had come to pay a courtesy visit on Wednesday (1 July 2026).

Sukanta was one of the fatalities in the chain-reaction accident that occurred at the Unisma junction in Bekasi on Monday (29 June 2026). This tragic incident was triggered by a lorry that is believed to have suffered a brake failure, causing it to swerve and collide with a number of motorcyclists at the junction. As a result, one person died and five others were injured.

For Melani, Sukanta’s passing was not merely the loss of a life partner, but the collapse of the family’s main breadwinner. Sukanta breathed his last breath whilst on his way home after a full day’s work providing for his family. As the sole breadwinner, he left behind a wife and three young daughters—two of whom are still attending secondary and primary school, whilst the youngest has not yet reached school age.

At such a young age, Melani must now shoulder the burden of life alone—raising and providing for the future of her three children without a father figure by their side.

Upon hearing this sad news, LPM Dompet Dhuafa acted swiftly to be there for the victim’s family. The LPM team’s visit was not merely a formality, but a demonstration of emotional solidarity and care for one another.

As well as providing moral support and psychological reassurance to Melani and her children, LPM Dompet Dhuafa also distributed a condolence payment and committed to providing ongoing support for the bereaved family.

A representative of LPM Dompet Dhuafa, Fachri, stated that Dompet Dhuafa will continue to strive to serve those in need, particularly those who have suffered sudden misfortune and lost the breadwinner of their family.

Mrs Melani’s story is a real-life example of a situation where our compassion is sorely needed. Let us join forces with Dompet Dhuafa to help ease the burden of those in need of protection and support during their times of hardship.
