JAKARTA — Working for 30 years serving the people in eradicating extreme poverty in Indonesia has again made Dompet Dhuafa win another award. Unmitigated, Dompet Dhuafa received two awards at once from the Baznas Award 2023 which was held on Tuesday (21/3/2023), at Puri Agung Convention Hall, Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jakarta.
The Baznas Award itself is an effort to appreciate all zakat-related activities in Indonesia given to Governors, Regents, Mayors, Press Personnel, Public Officials, Best Muzaki, Zakat Support Companies, Media, Public Figures, Lembaga Amil Zakat (LAZ) and others, initiated by Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS).
The two awards obtained by Dompet Dhuafa were for the category of Insan Pers Pendukung Zakat Sejahterakan Umat (Press Personnel Supporting Zakat Welfaring People) which was given to Parni Hadi, Governing Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation and the LAZ category with the Best Economic Program.

Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA., said that Lembaga Amil Zakat (LAZ) was very meritorious to the society. For him, the power of zakat is extraordinary, especially in the past two years, so much assistance has been given to the society. In fact, there is an increase in the collection, which is an average of 30-35%.
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Ma’ruf Amin was also present at this Baznas Award 2023. In his remarks, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia explained about various important components in the zakat ecosystem that must be managed and developed properly, so that the potential of zakat can be optimally explored.
“Make this Baznas Award 2023 as a part of efforts to strengthen the foundation of the national zakat ecosystem. The recipients of the Baznas Award 2023 are no other than the main elements and components and supporters of the zakat ecosystem itself, for that the sustainability of its role must be maintained and must be used as a role model to be replicated by other parties,” said Ma’ruf Amin.
The award for the LAZ category with the Best Economic Program was handed over directly by Arifin Purwakananta, President Director of Baznas RI, to Ustaz Ahmad Shonhaji, Director of Da’wah, Culture and Environmental Services of Dompet Dhuafa.
For the past 30 years, Dompet Dhuafa has been known among the public as an empowerment organization. Through the Mustahik Move to Muzakki movement, Dompet Dhuafa has touched more than 24 million benefit recipients. Thanks to its consistency in assisting the society, the welfare of the dhuafa group is also increased.
“Indeed, so far Dompet Dhuafa has been known as an empowerment organization, we have a lot of empowerment programs that are indeed encouraging the people from mustahik to become muzaki. It has been Dompet Dhuafa’s portfolio all along, and it is recognized, appreciated by Baznas. Hopefully this will become an inspiration,” explained Haryo Mojopahit, GM of Communication and Strategic Alliance of Dompet Dhuafa.

In addition, Dompet Dhuafa also bagged an award in the category of Press Personnel Supporting Zakat Welfaring People which was given to Parni Hadi, represented by GM of Communication and Strategic Alliance of Dompet Dhuafa, Haryo Mojopahit. Haryo admitted that Dompet Dhuafa was born from a press that was very concerned with zakat and poverty.
“This category is a category of press personnel who care about zakat management. We also see that in the past, Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation was founded by journalists who did have concern for poverty and believed that this zakat was an Islamic financial instrument that could indeed alleviate poverty, and from 1993 until now it is still running for 30 years. We consider this as a great award for 30 years of Dompet Dhuafa,” added Haryo.
Dompet Dhuafa always willingly continues to strive to reduce the number of poverty. To be able to overcome these problems, of course, it cannot be done alone. It needs help from all levels to work hand in hand, build collaboration, and act together to overcome the problem of inequality in this country.
“We are consistent in strengthening the philanthropic ecosystem in Indonesia. Not only Ziswaf-based Islamic philanthropy, but also philanthropy in general. And we hope that by strengthening the philanthropic ecosystem in Indonesia for the next 30 years, Dompet Dhuafa will be more meaningful for the mustahik, muzaki, and also friends from other institutions,” concluded Haryo.
