JAKARTA – At a meeting between the Dompet Dhuafa Empowerment Mosque Collaboration (KMP) and the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), at the Central DMI Building, on Friday (13/1/2023), DMI Chairman H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla gave advice and directions in efforts to empower mosques.
To the ranks of Dompet Dhuafa personnel and KMP administrators, Mr Jusuf Kalla advised that mosques are not only places of worship. But mosques must jointly become a place for the community to improve worshippers’ economic, educational, health, and Islamic capabilities. Therefore, mosques must be empowered and empowering as the vision and mission of DMI is to make mosques prosperous and prosperous for people.
“Of course, we will work together on how the people are not just mosques where we worship, but how we all strive to improve the dignity of life and how to glorify worshippers. So that people will become more muzakki (people who perform zakat) than mustahik (people who are entitled or deserving of receiving zakat),” he said.

Agreeing with that, the Secretary General of KMP, Imam Alfaruq, continued by explaining the strategy of mosques in Indonesia to become empowered mosques, even become empowerment. There are at least 5 pillars of the empowered mosque that the mosque administrators must run.
5 pillars of the empowered mosque
The first pillar is Baitullah. This pillar intends to ensure that the mosque performs a function of worship that meets the five prerequisites that must be met. I.e. the mosque should: have an eloquent and faqih imam; have a muadzin (People or several persons in the mosque who oversee proclaiming the call of worship, prayer, namely “Azan” and “Iqamah”) that istiqomah (Firm stance on the establishment and consequently in action); has a holy central room place to prostrate; has a representative ablution place and bathroom; and has a marbot (A person is responsible for taking care of the needs of the mosque, especially those related to the cleanliness of the place of worship) that ensures all areas of the mosque from the mihrab to the courtyard, from the pulpit to all toilets are kept clean and sanctified.
The second pillar is Baitul Maal. This pillar has a managerial function in managing zakat funds, infaq, almsgiving, and waqf, as well as social thematic proselytizing and humanity.

The third pillar is Baitut Tarbiyah. In this pillar, the mosque must be able to present its role in carrying out the regeneration of the youth and youth of the mosque. Various vocational programs and fulfilling the talent interests of mosque youth and teenagers are expected to provide sufficient experience and knowledge to face the future and continue the relay of struggle through the mosque.
The fourth pillar is Baitud Dakwah. In this case, the mosque has a role in strategically becoming the centre of the Islamic proselytizing broadcasting movement in a kaffah, measurable, systemized and proportional manner. The technological approach and the use of social media efficiently reach the object of proselytizing much broader and have a more significant impact.
The fifth pillar is Baitul Muamalah. This last pillar presents the role and function of the mosque in providing facilities and ecosystems, both for each administrator and mosque worshippers to be able to meet, interact, and provide education to each other for the community present in the muamalah zone in the mosque.
“Therefore, those who are in the muamalah zone of the mosque will have enormous potential to be able to get halal income and blessings again toyib, Insha Allah,” explained the Imam.

So, a mosque that has not fulfilled its pillars or good functions, namely Baitullah, is still included in the classification of warrior mosques. As for mosques that have met the criteria of the Baitullah and Baitul Maal Pillars, they can only enter the next level, namely the Empowered Mosque. As for the mosque that has been able to carry out the five pillars of the empowerment mosque above, the mosque is worthy of becoming an Empowerment Mosque. (Dompet Dhuafa/Muthohar)
