A Piece of Travel Story Down the Collapsed Mosque by the Impact of the Cianjur Earthquake (Part Two)

CIANJUR, WEST JAVA – In the middle of the fun of sharing, a man in a light brown peci came over. He was Mr. Dadan who was the leader of the Syirkatul Fiqriyah Islamic Boarding School. He said there were 20 children in his boarding school from nearby residents. All the activities of the students were centered on Masjid Al Barokah which was now not functioning.

As for the mosque, it was usually used daily by 225 families with about 500 worshippers praying there. However, now its condition is very badly damaged, making this mosque not functioning at all. It is still clearly visible that the rubble collapsed around even inside the mosque.

Until now, people have used the urgent tent mosque from BNPB right next to the mosque. This is because the residents are also affected, that is their houses are also razed to the ground. So what was thought about was how their family could rest comfortably.

“People are still thinking about how their family beds are. So it is still impossible to think about renovating the mosque. Even cleaning up the mosque has not been done yet,” Dadan said.

In addition, the cause of the residents still focusing on their respective homes is Kampung Rancapincung is located in the upper lands where access is so limited. In the emergency response period itself, it was not so much help came in, unlike areas that were located close to the main road. In fact, many people think that there was no more village up here.

Ade also looked so emotional every time he saw the atmosphere of the post-earthquake jamaah (together) prayers which were carried out in poor conditions on the rubble of the building. According to him, almost 80 percent of the houses of residents in his village were damaged, including Masjid Al Barokah, which has been the center of religious activities for decades for the people of Kampung Rancapincung.

“There is a sense of emotion, especially when Friday prayers could be done after the earthquake. At that time, we recalled how devastating the earthquake damaged the houses,” he added.

The inside of the mosque: many walls were cracked to the roof and the ceiling had collapsed

Ade then invited the Dompet Dhuafa team to see the condition of the mosque in the middle of the village. Besides the falling roof, the ceiling of the building collapsed, the cracks of the building worsened the appearance of the white-blue mosque.

“This mosque was badly damaged, collapsed, it’s no longer safe to be used as a place of prayer,” Dadan said.
