After 16 Hours Through Extreme Conditions, Dompet Dhuafa Arrives in Central Tapanuli & Sibolga

MEDAN, NORTH SUMATRA —— Dompet Dhuafa, through its Humanitarian Response Team from the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Waspada Branch in North Sumatra, finally reached the locations severely affected by flash floods and landslides in Central Tapanuli Regency (Tapteng) and Sibolga City from Medan on Monday (12/1/2025) afternoon.

This was achieved after the team had to travel by land for 16 hours via an extreme alternative route, namely Sidikalang-Subulussalam-Barus (west Sumatra crossing). Previously, since Tuesday (11/25/2025) night, the response team was hampered and had to turn back because the main access road from Tarutung to Sibolga was reported to be completely cut off by more than 50 landslides triggered by heavy rains.

“Upon arrival at the location, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team immediately reported to the relevant authorities and joined the joint SAR Team. This swift action was aimed at coordinating search and rescue efforts and the distribution of aid in the field,“ said Aryo Prasojo in a text message.

”Mobilization was difficult due to fuel shortages, diesel restrictions, power outages, internet connectivity issues, and a lack of clean water,” he added.

The next action plan will focus on rapid needs assessment, evacuation, and distribution of emergency aid to thousands of affected residents.
