Bank Indonesia Entrusts Productive Waqf Distribution Through Dompet Dhuafa and Seven Other Institutions

JAKARTA —-— Bank Indonesia, as the central bank of the Republic of Indonesia, does not want to be left behind in making a positive impact through charitable activities for the community. As was done at the Baitul Ihsan Mosque on Friday (May 27, 2022), Bank Indonesia and Dompet Dhuafa, together with various other institutions, signed a cooperation agreement on a productive waqf distribution program.

Dompet Dhuafa is one of the institutions trusted to become a nadzir (trustee) due to its role in developing productive waqf assets in various fields of management. On this occasion, the General Manager of Wakaf Dompet Dhuafa, Bobby Manulang, was present alongside Faris Budiawan, who acted as the Chair of the Ramadan Berkah Bersama Insan Bank Indonesia (RABBANI) Committee, to sign the cooperation agreement for the distribution of waqf.

Later, this distribution will be channeled in the form of medical equipment assistance for the Hasyim Asyari Waqf Hospital, Jombang, East Java. For your information, the Hasyim Asyari Hospital is a productive waqf management effort carried out by Dompet Dhuafa in collaboration with the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in the health sector. This hospital will serve the needs of the community, based on equal access to health services.

Built on three floors, the Hasyim Asyari Dompet Dhuafa Hospital meets the facilities and services of a Type C Hospital. This is fundamental, as by choosing Type C, the Hasyim Asyari Hospital can serve more poor people. The Hasyim Asyari Hospital is also the sixth hospital built with funds from the community through Dompet Dhuafa. The one-hectare plot of land on which it stands is a waqf (endowment) from the extended family of K.H. Hasyim Asyari.

This program also introduces the concept of waqf to the public. Dompet Dhuafa aims to inspire every branch of Islamic philanthropy, including waqf. While zakat and sadaqah are already common practices in society, we want to introduce a broader spectrum of waqf collection and its benefits. According to Islamic jurisprudence, the procurement of medical equipment is permissible to be collected based on waqf. Since medical equipment has benefits and utility over a certain period of time, this falls under the category of waqf khoiri, whose benefits are ongoing, thus serving as a basis for waqf collection,” said Bobby Manullang.

This distribution is a form of charity carried out by all Bank Indonesia employees during the holy month of Ramadan. In addition to performing daily prayers and studies, Bank Indonesia employees collected funds to be allocated to productive waqf programs, one of which is Dompet Dhufa. This is a movement that deserves appreciation for optimizing charity during Ramadan.

Anwar Bashori, Chairman of BI Religi and Executive Director of the Human Resources Department at Bank Indonesia, was present to witness the signing of the cooperation agreement between Bank Indonesia, Dompet Dhuafa, and several other institutions. At the end of the event, Anwar Bashori gave a speech

“Religious activities are not about competing in fanaticism, but rather about competing in improving worship to achieve blessings. In addition, through this activity, we also want to educate all Bank Indonesia employees that life is not about oneself, but rather a manifestation of the power of giving,” explained Anwar Bashori during his speech.
