Brain rot describes a state in which our brains become trapped in negative habits that reduce their ability to think clearly, concentrate, and process information effectively. One of the main causes of brain rot is the habit of consuming excessive and low-quality information. When a person is constantly exposed to useless or even harmful information, our brains become overloaded, and our critical thinking skills become impaired.

Islamic Lifestyle that Supports Brain and Mental Health
Islam provides guidelines for a balanced life, physically, mentally, and spiritually. The Islamic lifestyle not only regulates how we live our lives, but also how to maintain our mental and physical health so that we are always in good condition. Here are some principles of the Islamic lifestyle that can prevent brain rot and support our brain and mental health:
1. Set aside time for rest and adequate sleep
One of the things that is strongly emphasized in Islam is the importance of adequate rest. Adequate sleep is the time for the brain to process the information it receives and restore the body’s energy. The Prophet Muhammad taught his followers to get enough sleep so that their bodies and brains remain healthy.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
“Sleep at night and wake up for night prayers, for that will give you health.” (HR. Bukhari)
Adequate sleep also serves to refresh the mind and give the brain a chance to rest and avoid mental fatigue that can lead to brain rot.
2. Maintaining a Healthy and Nutritious Diet
Islam strongly encourages its followers to maintain a healthy diet, avoid overeating, and choose foods that are beneficial for the body. Healthy foods not only maintain the body but also support brain function.
Allah SWT states:
“Eat and drink, but do not be excessive. Indeed, Allah does not love those who are excessive.” (QS. Al-A’raf: 31)
Nutritious foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants are highly beneficial for brain health. Therefore, consuming healthy foods such as fish, green vegetables, and fruits is essential for maintaining brain function and preventing brain rot.
3. Avoid useless and harmful information
One of the causes of brain rot is excessive consumption of useless information. Islam teaches its followers not to spend too much time on things that are of no benefit. The Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
“A good Muslim is one who listens to good words and examines his actions with responsibility.” (HR. Bukhari)
Avoiding useless information and spending time on beneficial activities is a good way to maintain our mental health. Islam also encourages us to always fill our time with activities that enrich our knowledge, such as reading the Quran, learning, and discussing positive things.
4. Praying and Remembering Allah (Dhikr)
Islam teaches its followers to always remember Allah through dhikr and prayer. These activities are not only beneficial for strengthening spirituality, but also help calm the mind and reduce stress. Regular dhikr can help cleanse the heart of anxiety and strengthen peace of mind, which in turn affects brain health.
Allah SWT says:
“Indeed, with Allah’s remembrance hearts find rest.” (QS. Ar-Ra’d: 28)
By increasing our remembrance and prayers, we can keep our minds focused and not easily influenced by anxiety or stress that can damage our mental health.
5. Exercise to Maintain Physical and Mental Health
Islam encourages its followers to maintain a healthy and fit body. Exercise is not only beneficial for physical health but also helps improve blood circulation to the brain, supporting cognitive function. The Prophet Muhammad SAW strongly encouraged exercise, even mentioning in a hadith the importance of horseback riding, archery, and swimming as activities that strengthen the body.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
“Teach your children horse riding, archery, and swimming.” (HR. Bukhari)
Regular exercise will help keep the brain sharp, improve concentration, and prevent brain rot caused by a lazy or sedentary lifestyle.
Brain rot is a condition that can be prevented through healthier and wiser lifestyle habits. Islam provides excellent guidance for maintaining brain and mental health, helping us avoid poor mental conditions like brain rot. By maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, avoiding unproductive information, increasing prayers and remembrance of Allah, and exercising regularly, we can keep our brains healthy and sharp.
