EAST JAVA — Heavy rain that poured into the East Java region on Friday (7/7/2023) caused floods and landslides in Lumajang Regency and Malang Regency. Residents also felt flooding at several points scattered in Pronojiwo, Tempursari, Candipuro, Pasirian, Tempeh, and Pasrujambe Districts.
The flood originating from the cold lava of Mount Semeru caused three bridges in Lumajang to break, and several river embankments burst, causing water to spill into residential areas.
Responding to the flood disaster in Lumajang, Dompet Dhuafa, together with PT PLN Nusantara Power Unit Pembangkitan Muara Tawar, moved quickly to assist with 25 food packages to residents of Sumber Langsep Hamlet, Jugosari Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang.
The aid distribution on Friday (4/8/2023) by Dompet Dhuafa East Java immediately moved to the disaster-affected locations. This food package includes rice, cooking oil, egg noodles, wheat flour, sugar, tea bags, soy sauce, and salt.
This action is a form of Dompet Dhuafa’s concern for the survivors of the lava flood in Lumajang and is expected to meet the daily needs of the affected residents. Dompet Dhuafa is a social and humanitarian institution that focuses on various community empowerment programs, helping people in need and providing emergency response assistance, especially in disasters and emergencies.
“Alhamdulillah, as of today, we have distributed 25 food packages to residents affected by the Lumajang Flood. We are very grateful to PT PLN Nusantara Power Unit Pembangkitan Muara Tawar for distributing aid to flood victims in Candipuro District. We hope this assistance can ease the burden on our brothers and sisters who are experiencing disasters,” said Khalid Abdillah, Head of the East Java Dompet Dhuafa Branch.

Based on data from BPBD East Java, an explanation of the rainy conditions in the Mount Semeru area, they have caused an increase in water discharge in the Mount Semeru Lava River basin. So, a flood of cold lava caused several bridges connecting the village to be cut off.
“Alhamdulillah, this assistance is very useful for disaster survivors in Lumajang,” Khalid added.
The PLN Peduli movement is a humanitarian effort carried out by PLN as a form of concern for others—the donation results from donations collected through PLN Peduli’s Indonesia Siap Siaga (ISS) CSR Program.
