Cash Waqf Literacy, Time for Blessed Investment Through CWLS 006

JAKARTA — Efforts to improve financial literacy and waqf among the public continue to be carried out by various parties, one of which is through collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and CIMB Niaga in the Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) Series 006 program. Through the Dompet Dhuafa event titled “Cash Waqf: Salary or Benefit?” held on Thursday (October 2, 2025), Dompet Dhuafa aims to educate the public to better understand financial management while encouraging the use of cash waqf as a productive social investment instrument.

This program serves as a means for the public to learn how to invest and make waqf in an easy and safe manner, as the collected waqf funds are placed in State Sukuk instruments, which are sharia-based government bonds. Through this mechanism, waqf funds are managed by the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), handed over to the government, and the proceeds are then distributed to Mauquf Alaih or beneficiaries through nadzir institutions such as Dompet Dhuafa.

One concrete example of CWLS utilization is the construction of the Ahmad Wardi Eye Hospital in Serang, Banten, which is the result of the first CWLS series program, SW001. Now, in SWR 006, the spirit of sustainability is once again being brought to life through collaboration with CIMB Niaga.

On this occasion, Dompet Dhuafa also presented Prima Hadi Putra as Director of the Dompet Dhuafa Waqf Investment Management Institution (LPIW), and two experts, namely Frisca Devi Choirina, Co-Founder of @ngertisaham, and Asep Saefulloh, Sharia Wealth & Insurance Product Development Bank CIMB Niaga Syariah.

In addition to being a platform for charity, CWLS also serves as a means of financial education. Frisca Devi Choirina, Co-Founder of @ngertisaham, explained the importance of managing finances and distinguishing between needs and wants. Frisca also emphasized the importance of choosing sharia investment products that are not only financially profitable but also bring blessings.

“It is very important for us to upgrade our knowledge about the world of waqf, especially investment in sharia products, because the concept also focuses on how to make money and receive blessings. Sharia products are the answer. One of them is CWLS through waqf, which we have discussed extensively. With CWLS, we can invest in products that also provide blessings for a lifetime, Insha Allah,” said Frisca.

Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) is an SBSN investment product provided as an investment alternative for nazirs in managing cash waqf and other social funds to support economic empowerment programs for the community and social activities. Among these are the Green Lido Islamic Boarding School construction program in Sukabumi and medical equipment for the AKA Sribhawono Hospital in East Lampung.

Asep Saefulloh, as Sharia Wealth & Insurance Product Development Bank CIMB Niaga Syariah, said that the collaboration between CIMB Niaga and Dompet Dhuafa has been established since the CWLS series 002 to CWLS 006 programs. CIMB Niaga considers this collaboration to be very positive because Dompet Dhuafa is considered to have extraordinary support and credibility in managing social programs. During the partnership, Dompet Dhuafa and CIMB Niaga have consistently carried out various projects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of education and health.

“Cash waqf is a very interesting instrument, which is very powerful in the sense that it can bridge or become a very strategic vehicle for people who want to give waqf, but who may have economic limitations. With cash waqf, especially CWLS, people can make waqf starting from 1 million rupiah, thus providing maximum potential for worship for people who want to make waqf and, of course, the potential for collecting a large amount of waqf funds,” said Asep.

In line with this, Prima Hadi Putra explained that through CWLS series 006, the public can make temporary waqf for two years by placing funds in state instruments. He considers this program to be the right means to train oneself as a waqif, before eventually being ready to receive a greater mandate in making sustainable waqf.

“This is the most appropriate time to train ourselves to make sacrifices in this matter, to relinquish ownership to Allah, even if it is only temporary for two years, and our CWLS distribution partner is CIMB Niaga,” he said.

Apart from being a vehicle for good, CWLS also serves as a means of financial education. Jessica, one of the participants, admitted that she gained a new understanding of the importance of managing finances and distinguishing between needs and wants.

“As someone who works and receives a salary and doesn’t know much about financial literacy, this is really helpful. When you have a certain salary, you need to know how to manage your finances so that you know when you should buy something and when you can tell whether it is a need or just a want,” said Jessica.
