Dai Ambassador’s Da’wah Story in Thailand: Amazed by Bangkok’s ‘City Without Horn Noise’

Dai Ambassador Dompet Dhuafa Thailand

BANGKOK, THAILAND — On Wednesday (3/4/2024) morning, the weather in Bangkok was quite sunny. Ustaz Novi Maulana Yusup, Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador in Thailand had the opportunity to cycle through Bangkok. Ustaz Maulana wears complete cycling equipment, ranging from city bike type bicycle units, helmets, to shoes. With Google Maps, the ustaz explored every corner of the city, from one place to another.

On his way, Ustaz Maulana observed every condition of the city streets, with the aim of proving curiosity from several statements made by local staff of the Indonesian Consulate General to the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand, who said that this metropolitan city was free from noisy vehicle horns. Ustaz Maulana also tried to stop at congestion points. As a result, the statement that Bangkok is free from noisy vehicle horns is true. This kind of good view needs to be emulated by drivers in Indonesia.

The adventure of Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador for Thailand, Ustaz Novi Maulana Yusup, cycling in Bangkok stopped at the Haroon Mosque, which is said to have been founded by Indonesians.

There are also things that amaze Ustaz Maulana, namely when he passes through the river. He was fascinated by the river which was neatly organised, beautiful, and clean. Along the banks of the river is a wide sidewalk, beautified by trees and garden lights. The bridges are made to curve upwards so that boats can pass through as a means of transport or water tourism. While enjoying its beauty, the preacher muttered: ‘I wish Kalimalang Bekasi was organised like this’.

The river flows into the main river of Bangkok, the Chao Praya River, which is about 372 km long and ends in the Gulf of Thailand. Ustaz Maulana also reached the banks of the river, precisely at Cat Tower Pier, where tourist and transport ferries stop. The end point of Ustaz Maulana’s bicycle ride then stopped at an old mosque, the Haroon Mosque, before finally returning to the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok. The mosque is located in Charoenkrung, Bangrak District, Bangkok City. It is said that this mosque was built by an immigrant from Pontianak around 1828 named Toh Haroon Bafaden.

‘It is amazing that many mosques in Bangkok were built by the sons of Indonesia. Hopefully the strength of these mosques will become a beacon spreading the light of Islam to the people of Bangkok, Thailand, ‘said Ustaz Novi Maulana Yusup.
