PAREPARE, SOUTH SULAWESI —-— On Wednesday (12/03/25), Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV) Chapter Ajatappareng, South Sulawesi, shared joy and excitement in a literacy campaign titled Gerakan Literasi Mappadeceng (Mappadeceng Literacy Movement) at UPTD SDN 70 Parepare, Soreang District, Parepare City, South Sulawesi.
As part of the 2025 National Literacy Movement series, the activity took place by encouraging children to become more familiar with and understand the Lontara script, which is the local language of South Sulawesi.
“We see that the children at UPTD SDN 70 Parepare have a high enthusiasm for learning, but they lack access to learning and reciting the Lontara script. Therefore, in this activity, we aim to provide a fun and engaging experience in learning the Lontara script,” said Namirah Muslimin, Coordinator of DDV Ajatappareng, South Sulawesi.

Namirah also said that the excitement of this activity was enlivened by collaborators from cultural activists to stimulate children’s creativity in literacy.
“In this activity, we not only focus on reading, but also encourage children to develop their imagination and express themselves through stories and visuals. We also involved two collaborators, namely the Pasere Kolektif Indonesia Community, which introduced the Lontara script using creative methods, and HMPS Piaud IAIN Parepare,” she added.
The enthusiasm of the children that permeated the atmosphere during the activity reignited the spirit of literacy, especially Lontara script literacy, which had begun to fade.

“We hope that the creativity of our younger brothers and sisters will continue to grow and that they will be able to preserve the Lontara script as the local language of South Sulawesi. Hopefully, this will be a sustainable beginning and that the habit of reading will continue to grow among children, so that they can feel that books can take them to a broader future,” concluded Namirah.
The activity is one of DDV’s initiatives, whose spirit is embodied in the #SatuHariSatuKebaikan mission, to continue fostering a love of literacy among children across Indonesia. (Dompet Dhuafa)
