SOUTH TANGERANG — The Dompet Dhuafa Disaster Management Center (DMC) response team provided small-scale fire fighting training to young people who are members of Korps Sukarela Palang Merah Indonesia (KSR PMI) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah in the yard of Campus 1 UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Ciputat, South Tangerang, Thursday (20/7/2023).
The purpose of this training program is to provide participants with an understanding of the function of light fire extinguishers (APAR), as well as procedures to use them appropriately and correctly to put out fires on a small scale.
Erwandi Saputra, DMC Dompet Dhuafa Response-Recovery Staff of DMC Dompet Dhuafa as the speaker in this activity said, “This activity is very important to do, considering that fire disasters, especially happened in Jakarta in 2023 recorded in the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, they handled 880 fire incidents and nearly 5,000 residents were affected. With this training, it is hoped that participants will know what causes fires and be able to overcome and prevent fire disasters,” he said.
In this training, DMC Dompet Dhuafa provided basic materials in handling fire disasters. Among them, knowledge of the stages of fire occurrence, methods of extinguishing fires, procedures for using fire extinguishers, requirements for placing and installing fire extinguishers, six classifications of fire according to the American NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), factors that cause fires, fire hazards and losses, and the basics of emergency evacuation.
The training was closed with a simulation of small-scale fire extinguishing in the yard of Campus 1 UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. With the hope that the theory that has been learned can be put into practice immediately to provide direct experience in extinguishing fires.
“I’m very grateful to the DMC Dompet Dhuafa Team for providing a lot of knowledge about how to overcome fire disasters. It turns out that how to extinguish fires is quite easy, the most important thing is that we are calm and know what we have to do when a fire disaster occurs,” said Kritina, one of the participants.
Hopefully the presence of this training can increase the capacity of the participants in dealing with fires. It’s time for Indonesia to be empowered to face disasters. (DEN/DMC Dompet Dhuafa)
