Heavy rains that have been falling on the Pekalongan region since Monday (20/01/2025) afternoon have caused river water discharge to increase dramatically. This condition triggered flash floods at several points, including in Petungkriyono Subdistrict. The high rain intensity destabilized the soil in mountainous areas, triggering large landslides that hit residential areas.

In addition, the main bridge connecting the Petungkriyono area with the surrounding area was broken due to the swift flow of the flood. This forced rescuers and aid distribution teams to find alternative routes that took longer to travel.

The landslide also damaged the electricity and telecommunication networks, causing most of the affected areas to lose access to communication. This made it difficult to coordinate the evacuation and distribution of emergency aid to the victims.
