Boyolali, West Java – On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Dompet Dhuafa Central Java once again demonstrated its compassion for the residents of Jlarem Village on the slopes of Mount Merbabu. It was known that this village was affected by drought and had difficulty accessing clean water. Dompet Dhuafa was present by constructing a clean water pipeline that connects the water source at the peak of Mount Merbabu to the homes of the residents in Jlarem Village, Gladagsari Sub-District, Boyolali Regency. This action was part of Dompet Dhuafa’s Water for Life (AUK) Program.

On this occasion, Ustaz Herman Budianto, the General Manager of Environment and Culture at Dompet Dhuafa, was also present. He conveyed that this program was made possible thanks to the concern of Dompet Dhuafa donors from all over the archipelago.

“Alhamdulillah, through this means, the trust of Dompet Dhuafa donors from all over the archipelago can be channeled once again. Hopefully, with the presence of this facility, the activities and worship of the community will become easier and more comfortable,” said Ustaz Herman Budianto in his speech.

It is known that the highest village on the slopes of Mount Merbabu has difficulty obtaining clean water, especially during the dry season. This is because the landscape of Jlarem Village makes it impossible for the residents to dig wells due to rocky soil and its location in highland areas. Therefore, the people there rely on rainwater to irrigate their gardens.

For daily needs, the residents channel water from the water source at the peak of Mount Merbabu through connected pipes, which is then collected in a storage tank and distributed to the residents’ settlements.

This condition poses a significant challenge to the population, most of whom earn their livelihoods as farmers. Moreover, the drought often results in crop failure.

The Head of Jlarem Village, Teguh Karyanto, explained the difficulties they faced when a clean water crisis hit their village. However, he greatly appreciated the presence of the Water for Life Program.

“In Jlarem Village, there are a total of seven hamlets, and almost all of them have difficulty obtaining clean water. This is a big problem for us who make a living by farming, especially during the current dry season. Therefore, I welcome the Water for Life Program initiated by Dompet Dhuafa.”

“On behalf of the people in Jlarem Village, I express our heartfelt gratitude to the Dompet Dhuafa donors from all over the archipelago for the realization of this program,” he said in welcoming the Dompet Dhuafa team.

Water for Life is a regular program by Dompet Dhuafa to assist communities experiencing water scarcity or drought with a spirit of mutual cooperation. The Head of Dompet Dhuafa Central Java Branch, Zaini Tafrikhan, also mentioned that in the past three months, Dompet Dhuafa Central Java had received reports and requests for clean water assistance from various regions experiencing drought.

“From June to early August, DD Jateng received reports of drought in Demak, Wonogiri, Cilacap, and Boyolali. Alhamdulillah, we have placed clean-water tanks at several points for direct consumption. For the rest, we have implemented pipeline programs like the one in Boyolali,” added Zaini. (Dompet Dhuafa/Central Java/Anndini)
