Dompet Dhuafa Helps Sheep Farmers Empower to be Able to Pay for Children’s College Tuition Fee, Build Houses and Schools

SUKABUMI, WEST JAVA — “Initially, the potential here was only agriculture. Land, weather, and water are very supportive. Sheep farmings exist, but we take care of someone else’s. Then Dompet Dhuafa has been here since 2009, helping to unlock our potential through empowering sheep farming. At that time, 3 livestock groups were formed in 7 villages in 2 sub-districts,” said Ustaz Harun, one of the benefit recipients of Program Pemberdayaan Ekonomi (Ternak) Binaan Dompet Dhuafa (the Economic Empowerment Program (Livestock) assisted by Dompet Dhuafa).

He said Dompet Dhuafa in its stages of conducting a feasibility study of partners, regional feasibility, provided training, as well as rolling out 6 sheep hybrids/person, to 80 farmers who were members of the group. After five years, the development reached 50 sheep / person. It also increased in terms of the economy of breeders. Some are able to pay for their children’s college tuition fee, build houses, and build free schools.

“It also developed into 9 livestock groups in 3 sub-districts, then we formed the ‘Riung Mukti’ Cooperative in 2011. And now there are about 9,000 sheep distributed through Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK). Alhamdulillah, from the breeding we’ve been also able to pay for our children’s college tuition fee, build houses, and build madrasas (schools) for underprivileged community and orphans since 2018,” said the Chairman of this Koperasi Kampung Ternak ‘Riung Mukti’ Kalapanunggal Sukabumi.

Harun at his residence that night, Monday (5/6/2023) while filling a hungry stomach after a day of carrying out the Quality Control (QC) of sacrificial animals at many locations in Kalapanunggal District, Sukabumi. These locations include Pulosari Village, Palasari Girang Village, Adununggal Village, and Batu Gajah Village.
