Dompet Dhuafa Opens Rehabilitation of Inmates in Pondok Bambu Class I Prison

JAKARTA – Behind bars, there are hopes that are still alive. Prisoners are not just serving their sentences, but also reorganizing their future. Dompet Dhuafa is committed to empowering them. Not only with knowledge, but also with character building. Because everyone deserves a second chance.

As an implementation of zakat funds, Dompet Dhuafa through the Bina Santri Lapas (BSL) program of the Lembaga Pelayan Masyarakat (LPM) continues to strive to contribute empathy to the assisted residents through spiritual mental training, independence, personality, and motivation for a better life. On Wednesday (05/02/25), Dompet Dhuafa officially collaborated with Pondok Bambu Class I Prison, East Jakarta, by signing a Cooperation Agreement with Third Parties in 2025 & Opening the Rehabilitation of Inmates in Pondok Bambu Class I Prison.

Ahmad Shonhaji, Director of Social, Humanitarian & Da’wah Program Implementation Partners at Dompet Dhuafa, said that the Bina Santri Lapas LPM Program was established to provide personality development and self-reliance training.

“Dompet Dhuafa strives to provide the best service for the whole community, including correctional facility residents. Bina Santri Lapas is here to provide spiritual reinforcement and guidance to become an even better person,” he concluded.

The head of Pondok Bambu Class I Prison, Nebi Viarleni, appreciated the cooperation of all parties involved in providing the best service for correctional facility residents.

“I hope that we are all committed to providing the best service. The purpose of correctional services is not to punish, but to provide opportunities for each individual to improve themselves, learn, and develop,” he said.

Through zakat funds, in addition to the Class I Pondok Bambu Detention Center, the Prison Santri Development Program run by Dompet Dhuafa is also currently present and has established cooperation with 11 prison partners. Also, by 2024 more than 1,087 people will become fostered santri who benefit from the program.

The Bina Santri Lapas program has been running since 2005 and has collaborated with several correctional institutions. For its dedication, the program received an appreciation from the Director General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. (Dompet Dhuafa)
