JAKARTA — Dompet Dhuafa received a visit from the General Administration, Planning and Finance Division of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta at the Dompet Dhuafa Office, Philanthropy Building, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/8/2022). On this occasion, the entire team of UIN Suka delegates expressed their desire to share knowledge about the world of Islamic philanthropy in order to learn about the management of BH State Universities. Led by the Acting Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, Rahmad Riyadi and his entire staff, Dompet Dhuafa welcomed this visit and friendship.

Rahmad Riyadi explained that Dompet Dhuafa was initially established as a zakat, infaq, and sedekah (ZIS) institution. Dompet Dhuafa received excellent enthusiasm from the community, so that over time, Dompet Dhuafa expanded into a humanitarian institution, a social institution, a waqf institution, and even moved into preserving arts and culture.
“It is important for us to understand each other’s common concerns. So that later we will be able to collaborate in various sectors for the benefit of the people. Dompet Dhuafa pays attention to education and culture. As a waqf trustee, Dompet Dhuafa has also developed productive waqf. Waqf remains as an Endowment Fund. Basically (waqf) remains, but how these waqf assets continue to revolve so as to generate profit for educational, cultural, environmental and other programs,” he explained.

Dr. H. Mamat Rahmatullah, M.M as Head of the Bureau of Academic Administration, Student Affairs and Cooperation said that UIN Suka intends to implement and develop waqf on campus. He also discussed his interest in the waqf model applied by campuses in Turkey that are able to provide free education for their students.
“We have plans to build a productive waqf monument to education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. With the involvement of Dompet Dhuafa, which has managed many productive waqf assets, it is hoped that this plan can be realized,” he said.
In addition to waqf in education, UIN Sunan Kalijaga also announced its plan to create programs in the environmental (waste) and cultural sectors. The empowerment of productive waqf by Dompet Dhuafa itself has moved on to the five pillars of the Dompet Dhuafa program, namely Health, Education, Economy, Social, and Da’wah and Culture.

The Chair of the Center for Higher Education Management Studies, Drs. H. Jarot Wahyudi, S.H., M.A, added that UIN Sunan Kalijaga, as an Islamic campus, wanted to collaborate with Dompet Dhuafa to provide millennial students with education and a deep understanding of waqf. Even until now, many people still think that waqf is land for 3M (masjid, madrasah, maqbaroh/makam). In fact, waqf can be broader than that. Even a small nominal amount of money can be donated.
This is very much in line with the cash waqf that Dompet Dhuafa has promoted, namely waqf for the price of a cup of coffee. With a nominal value of only IDR 10,000, people can fulfill a waqf whose rewards will continue to flow to the waqif and whose benefits will continue to flow to the beneficiaries of the waqf (mauquf alaih). Not only that, Dompet Dhuafa has also made it easy to donate through many digital channels, just like people ordering a cup of coffee online. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muthohar)
