Dompet Dhuafa’s Strategic Move: Strengthening the Asia-Pacific Alliance for an Independent Palestine

JAKARTA –— Dompet Dhuafa has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding the humanitarian movement for Palestine by participating in the Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine. This event was initiated by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), the Global Coalition for Al Quds and Palestine (GCAP), and a number of philanthropic institutions. Through this involvement, Dompet Dhuafa strengthens its role in the global mission to liberate Palestine while promoting cross-border humanitarian solidarity.

On Thursday (10/30/2025), Dompet Dhuafa attended the Press Conference of the Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine at the Buya Hamka Hall, MUI Headquarters, Jakarta. The Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine, themed “Strengthening the Alliance to Defend Palestine,” will be held on November 7-8 at the MPR-DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta.

Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, stated that Dompet Dhuafa is part of a cross-institutional collaboration that demonstrates strong solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. Through the Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine, Dompet Dhuafa views this event as an important moment to build understanding, strengthen synergy, and establish collaboration with various countries in the Asia Pacific region in supporting humanitarian efforts and concrete programs for the Palestinian people.

“So we want to take advantage of this to strengthen our network across the Asia-Pacific region while building collaboration and mutual understanding in helping Palestine. One of the outcomes will hopefully be a declaration and action points, not just building solidarity,” said Ahmad Juwaini on Thursday (10/30/2025).

The Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine was held against the backdrop of developments in Gaza, Palestine, which increasingly requires international support and monitoring to achieve peace and independence for the Palestinian people.

From October 2023 to November 2025, according to the UN, WHO, UNRWA, and various international humanitarian agencies, the worsening situation in Gaza has claimed more than 60,000 civilian lives, more than half of whom are children and women. Vital infrastructure, such as schools, hospitals, mosques, churches, and food distribution centers, has been destroyed by relentless Israeli bombardment. Nearly 70 percent of buildings in Gaza have been razed to the ground, while 1.9 million residents, or about 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have been displaced from their homes and are living in dire conditions as refugees.

Present at the press conference were Bunyan Saptono as Chair of the MUI HLNKI Commission, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim as Chair of the MUI Foreign Relations and International Cooperation (HLN-KI), Amirsyah Tambunan as Secretary General (Sekjen) of the MUI, Oke Setiadi as Chair of the Asia Pacific Conference OC, and Mardani Ali Sera as Chair of the BKSAP DPR RI.

MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan stated that the aim was to strengthen solidarity among the people of the Asia Pacific, formulate concrete steps to defend the Palestinian people, and build a joint agenda with the people of the Asia Pacific to stop the genocide and achieve Palestinian independence. To that end, all conference participants will jointly analyze the latest developments in Gaza from a humanitarian, political, and international law perspective.

Furthermore, the Chairman of BKSAP, Mardani Ali Sera, stated that the Indonesian House of Representatives greatly appreciates the invitation from MUI and Indonesian philanthropic institutions and enthusiastically supports it, as a reflection of the consistency and full support of the Indonesian people for the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence.

“We at BKSAP are very open to collaboration with all parties. Moreover, we warmly welcome the implementation of this regional Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine and hope that after this we will continue to collaborate with each other to realize that Islam is rahmatan lil alamin (a blessing for the universe),” said Madani.

The conference, which also serves to carry out the mandate of the GCAP Istanbul meeting, will discuss a number of relevant agendas in line with its theme, “Strengthening the Alliance for Palestine,” and its objectives. First, it will discuss Palestinian geopolitics and global solidarity, the implications of the Palestinian problem for the Asia-Pacific region, and the prospects for peace in Palestine.

After that, the conference will take place in a working group format. Second, the working groups will run in parallel so that a number of technical agendas can be discussed in greater depth, ranging from the current conditions in Gaza and Palestine, the geopolitics surrounding the Palestinian issue and the role of major countries, as well as the potential support of communities in the Asia Pacific region.

Dompet Dhuafa has also been entrusted with managing the Endowment Fund for Palestine as an effort to provide sustainable support for the Palestinian people. This mandate is a strategic step in changing the pattern of aid, which was previously instantaneous, to a more planned, sustainable, and long-term impact on humanity.

“We can prepare a fund that is more long-term in nature, which will be better and can be used for longer-term needs. This is an opportunity for Dompet Dhuafa to take advantage of this forum,” added Ahmad Juwaini.

It is hoped that at the end of the Conference, a joint recommendation document, “The Asia Pacific Declaration for Palestine 2025,” will be produced, and of course, a cross-sector Asia Pacific alliance will be established to support the Palestinian struggle, and concrete steps will be identified for the Asia Pacific region in diplomacy, advocacy, and humanitarian action for Palestine.
