HONG KONG — In Hong Kong, the Octopus Card is the most famous and most widely used digital wallet by Hong Kongers. This card provides payment gateway services or electronic transactions. In fact, besides Octopus, there are a number of other payment gateways, such as WeChat, Ali Pay, and so on. However, Octopus is more popular because it can be used with physical or digital cards. Unlike in Indonesia, where there are many types of payment gateways with limited usage.
The Octopus card is a magic card in Hong Kong. Why? Because this card can be used to pay for anything, from transportation, shopping, laundry, and so on. One of the sophistications of the Octopus card is that it is one second read or has high sensitivity. So, the queue when entering the bus or MRT does not get long because people are waiting for each other.

The good news is that the Hong Kong branch of Dompet Dhuafa is also working with Octopus for the payment of zakat mal (the obligatory religious tax on wealth), infak (voluntary donations), and sedekah (charity). Thanks to this collaboration, Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Hong Kong can use Octopus to pay zakat. Almost every Indonesian migrant worker there has an Octopus card as their digital wallet. That way, they can pay zakat, infak, and alms through Dompet Dhuafa with their Octopus card. (Dompet Dhuafa)
