Facing Post-Flood Threats, Purela and Dompet Dhuafa Prevent Disease Outbreaks that Threaten Children

JAKARTA —–— Health issues have begun to emerge in the wake of flash floods and landslides that hit Sumatra. Difficult access to clean water has left survivors, especially children, vulnerable to disease. This situation has become a major task for all of us.

To address this, Dompet Dhuafa has partnered with Purela—a brand specializing in baby and children’s skincare—to join the movement of kindness for Sumatra. On Thursday (12/18/2025), Dompet Dhuafa received a donation from Purela in the form of cash and 2,000 products, which were symbolically handed over by Dr. Shindy Putri, owner of the Purela brand, to Etika Setiawanti, Director of Resource Mobilization at Dompet Dhuafa.

Children are one of the groups most vulnerable to various health problems caused by flash floods and landslides that hit three provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Based on the health journal Infectious Diseases Society of America Journal, University of Oxford, about the health risks caused by floods, it shows that the first wave of diseases that threaten are diarrhea and skin infections.

Additionally, skin infections, diarrhea, and respiratory tract infections typically emerge within the first 10 days of flooding.

“We at Purela provide assistance in the form of cash and also give products for children because there is a shortage, especially in areas that are difficult to reach, and children have lower immunity and physical resistance than adults. Then, skin that is directly exposed to mud, floods, and logs has a very high potential for skin diseases,” said Dr. Shindy.

In distributing this assistance, Purela provided a number of children’s skin care products, including Purela Shooting Baby Cream, which helps maintain the skin barrier, skin health, and moisturize children’s skin that is dry and itchy.

In addition, Calming Baby Cream was also distributed as an alternative to telon oil to help protect children from insect bites, as well as Cleansing Gel to maintain the cleanliness of children’s skin in the affected areas. It is hoped that this range of products can help overcome various skin problems experienced by child survivors.

Meanwhile, the number of victims of flash floods and landslides in Sumatra continues to rise. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of December 27, 2025, 1,138 people have died, 163 are missing, and around 449,900 have been forced to evacuate.

Dompet Dhuafa, as an institution that strives to remain at the forefront in assisting survivors of flash floods and landslides in Sumatra, expresses its appreciation to its partners in this collaborative effort, including Purela. Dompet Dhuafa’s Director of Resources and Mobilization, Etika, believes that collaboration with partners such as Purela plays a very important role, especially in the emergency response phase. This support helps meet the urgent needs of survivors, ranging from food logistics, hygiene kits, medical services, to temporary shelter.

“Thank you very much to Purela. We pray for blessings and continued success for its products. We hope that they will become increasingly popular with the public, especially today, as they support and are involved in humanitarian aid through Dompet Dhuafa for survivors in Sumatra, focusing on children and mothers, who today are facing a severe shortage of clean water and power outages in most areas, making it difficult to maintain ideal hygiene conditions. Therefore, Purela’s products are greatly needed,” said Etika.

In line with this, Dr. Shindy Putri and Purela are also looking for credible institutions such as Dompet Dhuafa.

“We must provide assistance in any form as long as it is beneficial and as soon as possible. My team and I are also continuing to monitor the progress of an official institution whose actions we see as very fast, and InshaAllah, its trust and integrity are always maintained, so we are motivated to work together with Dompet Dhuafa, which InshaAllah is trustworthy,” continued Dr. Shindy.

Friends, there is still an opportunity to continue speaking out in the movement of kindness for Sumatra. Dr. Shindy also invites all levels of society to contribute in any form, through digital.dompetdhuafa.org/donasi/purelabersamasumatera. (Dompet Dhuafa)
