Fidyah from Shopee Users, One Click Brings New Hope to Recipients

BANDUNG —— On Saturday (January 17, 2026), acts of kindness returned amid the hustle and bustle of the City of Fire. Dompet Dhuafa, together with Dompet Dhuafa Volunteers (DDV) West Java, went down alley after alley, knocking on residents’ doors one by one. Each knock brought hope and simple happiness, perhaps in the form of a box of rice or a container of basic necessities.

For those who received it, the aid became a source of comfort, a source of encouragement, a sign that there is still compassion and kindness in the world, and a source of strength to persevere and move forward.

Dompet Dhuafa, together with its digital partner Shopee, distributed fidyah collected from Shopee app users. The ease of using the fidyah payment feature on the digital platform not only made it easier for people to fulfill their obligations, but also brought happiness and new hope to the beneficiaries who were in need of a helping hand.

In the riverside area of Wates Village, Bojongloa Kidul, Bandung City, an elderly man named Undang welcomed the Dompet Dhuafa team. When the Dompet Dhuafa team knocked on his door to deliver a container box of basic necessities, his gentle face and smile immediately greeted them.

Through the fidyah program, Dompet Dhuafa and Shopee distributed 60 food packages and 60 ready-to-eat meal packages to beneficiaries, including Undang, who is one of the eight categories of beneficiaries.

In his daily life, he makes a living as a scrap collector, gathering items like used plastic bottles and glasses. However, as he grows older, he can no longer go around collecting scrap like he used to.

Now, he buys used items from his neighbors at low prices and then resells them for a small profit. For example, he buys used bottles for Rp1,500 per kilogram and then resells them for Rp2,000. He uses the difference to meet his daily needs.

“Sometimes my children give me money, so I buy scrap from them. I get the most from the house that sells scrap, maybe 3-5 kilograms. If I have a lot, I sell two sacks, but if I don’t have much, I just keep it,” said Undang.

In addition to collecting used bottles, Undang also buys unused refrigerators from local residents. He then dismantles the refrigerators to extract the copper from the machines. He melts the copper down into chunks that are worth more, ranging from Rp50,000 to Rp100,000 per kilogram.

Despite living alone in a small building, Undang still tries to maintain his enthusiasm in going about his daily life. To meet his food needs, he occasionally asks for help from his children or buys simple meals such as Padang cuisine.

“I live alone, sleep here, and cook simple meals like scrambled eggs, which are easy to make,” said Undang.

Through the fidyah program, assistance in the form of lunch packages and basic food supplies has been a very meaningful support for Undang. This assistance not only eases his daily needs, but also ensures that he receives the right benefits amid the limitations he faces.

“Alhamdulillah, thank you Dompet Dhuafa and Shopee. Alhamdulillah, I’m so happy that you’re here. I just want to eat, and I’ll do my best to cook,” said Undang with a warm smile.

The trust of Shopee users in fulfilling their fidyah through Dompet Dhuafa has become a source of hope for many beneficiaries. May every contribution that is distributed bring blessings, strengthen those who are struggling, and become a continuous source of charity for the givers. (Dompet Dhuafa)
