From Taman Ceria to Pos Hangat, Dompet Dhuafa’s Efforts to Restore the Souls and Warm the Bodies of Galodo Survivors in West Sumatra

WEST SUMATRA —-— The flash flood disaster in West Sumatra still leaves deep sorrow for the survivors, including children. To help restore their psychosocial condition, Dompet Dhuafa through its Singgalang Branch presented Taman Ceria as a safe and comfortable space on Tuesday (11/26/2025) in Galapuang village, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra. The presence of this park has slowly brought smiles back to the children’s faces, allowing them to enjoy activities and momentarily forget the trauma of the disaster.

At Taman Ceria, the children play a disaster-themed snakes and ladders game developed by Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC). This game is designed to train children’s creativity and also introduce them to the concept of disasters.

This activity was attended by 30 children who survived the flash floods. Snakes and Ladders was played by having the children play directly on the snakes and ladders board. Through this activity, the children were very enthusiastic about playing the game and understanding the rules.

“Children can learn about disasters, such as the various types of disasters and how to deal with them,” said Novil Oksan Putra, Head of the Dompet Dhuafa Singgalang Branch.

In addition, post-disaster recovery efforts following the flash floods in West Sumatra continue. DMC Dompet Dhuafa, together with Dompet Dhuafa Singgalang, is once again providing support to affected residents through the Pos Hangat service located in the flood evacuation area in Kampung Galapuang, Padang Pariaman Regency.

At this post, volunteers distribute green bean porridge to survivors, including elderly people who have returned to their homes after the flood receded. The distribution of aid is not only carried out at the evacuation post. Volunteers also go door-to-door in residential areas, providing warm meals from house to house, to ensure that all elderly people receive the nutrition they need to recover from the disaster.

According to the latest reports, the floodwaters in Kampung Galapuang have receded. However, a number of houses are still damaged due to the high water levels that hit the residential area.
