Holding IVD Camp 2022, DDV Invites Volunteers to Act Inclusively

LAMPUNG — In commemorating World Volunteer Day, Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV) held an International Volunteer Day (IVD) Camp in Lampung. Entitled “Inclusive Volunteer in Action”, this national meeting of volunteers throughout Indonesia lasted for 3 (three) days, on Friday – Sunday (16-18/12/2022), located at Wira Garden, Bandar Lampung.

After going through the national selection process, as many as 130 volunteers were selected from all over Indonesia to take part in the capacity-building program in IVD Camp 2022. This time, Dompet Dhuafa invites its volunteers to be more inclusive and deepen their understanding of inclusive programs and actions.

Arif R. Haryono as General Manager of the Dompet Dhuafa Strategic Alliance explained that by being held every year, IVD Camp Dompet Dhuafa is a forum to refresh the activities of volunteers on what has been done for one year and what will be done in the next one year. This year, IVD Camp carries inclusive diversity issues and presents solutions to problems in the community. This is what distinguishes the IVD Camp 2022 from previous years.

The participants enthusiastically listened to each presentation from the speaker.

Triana Rahmawati as the Founder of Griya Schizofren & Happyfam, delivered a seminar entitled “Inklusi & Komunikasi Empati”.

More importantly, Inclusive Volunteer in Action will later become actions or programs that focus on the elderly, disabled, and people with mental disorders or Orang-orang dengan Gangguan Jiwa (ODGJ).

“This year, we carry an inclusive theme to attract people’s attention because community groups still need our collective attention. We want to try and assemble an activity like this so that in 2023, our attention as volunteers can expand our horizons and discourse on inclusive activities for people who need a lot of care,” said Arif.

As the host, Yogi Achmad Fajar, as the Branch Leader of Dompet Dhuafa Lampung hopes that the results of the IVD Camp in Lampung can be transmitted to all volunteers throughout Indonesia. To the volunteers, he said that disabled survivors need equality, not pity.

“Often people see them (people with disabilities) as weak people who need help. In fact, what they need is a space for creation, aspirations, not just about money,” he said.

The participants of IVD Camp learned to interact directly with children with special needs from Yayasan Sahabat Difabel Lampung.

One of the participants asked the speaker a question.

To deepen the understanding of inclusion programs, DDV presents evocative sessions with speakers who are so competent in their fields. Among them are the seminar “Inklusi & Komunikasi Empati” by Triana Rahmawati as the Founder of Griya Schizofren & Happyfam, the workshop “Membuka Jalan untuk Mereka yang Spesial” by Sritje Habibie as the coach at Pelita Hati School, and the film surgery “Tegar” by Anggi Frisca as the Director and scriptwriter of Tegar Film.

The following day, the volunteers interacted directly and built emotional closeness with the elderly and children with special needs. In addition, there is also the material “Spirit of Volunteer” by Erie Sudewo, the Cultural Parade performance, the announcement of the DDV Award, and ending with Voluntrip Explore Pahawang Island.

“Hopefully, after this activity, friends will have the provision of how to handle and inclusively interact with vulnerable communities,” concluded Arif.

One of the inclusive volunteer participants from Jakarta, Fety Sulistiyandari won the DDV Award as the best volunteer in 2022. His activeness in every activity organized by DDV Jabodetabek is unquestionable. In addition, the initiative is so high. As the coordinator of DDV Jabodetabek, he did not hesitate to concurrently serve as documentation, design, and even social media admin team. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muthohar)
