WEST SULAWESI — Seasonal floods hit Indonesia again, including the Kalukku, Mamuju, West Sulawesi areas on Thursday (11/10/2022). Rains with a fairly high intensity made the river in Kalukku overflow and caused flash floods accompanied by landslides. The overflow of the river also caused the road to be damaged and driving access to be cut off.
There were 7,854 people and 2,488 houses affected by this natural disaster. One of the worst-hit areas is Batang Barana Hamlet, Sondoang Kacamatan Village, Kalukku-Mamuju. As a result of the avalanche in the stung area, a number of houses, mosque facilities, and schools were damaged.
In response to the Mamuju flash flood, the next day, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) response team from Dompet Dhuafa, South Sulawesi, took to the field to help residents affected by the disaster. The initial action taken is to collect data and help clean up.
“After receiving information about this disaster, the Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi response team immediately went down to the location to help residents affected by the disaster. Some of the actions carried out are data collection and cleaning actions. After that, we set up a soup kitchen,” said Dompet Dhuafa Sulsel branch leader Rahmat Hidayat HM in a written statement.
In addition, another effort also made by Dompet Dhuafa is to establish a Public Kitchen on Jl. Tani Kompleks Pasar Tasiu, Kalukku Village, Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency. The establishment of DU is the result of joint concern with PJB UP Paiton for the affected residents. 262 portions of rice boxes have also been successfully distributed to flood survivors.
The distribution of rice box assistance is dotted with locations in Batang Barana Hamlet, Sondoang Village, Kalukku District with 30 beneficiaries, in Salukahang Hamlet as many as 82 people, and on Jl. Lombang-lombang Pantai, Sinyonyoi Village, Kalukku District as many as 150 people.
Until Monday (10/17/2022), Dompet Dhuafa’s response team is still on site to assist the affected residents. The team is also still collecting data on what assistance needs of the affected residents. (Dompet Dhuafa / DD Sulsel / Muthohar)
