Uthman bin Affan was known as a generous wealthy man. He once bought the Raumah well in Medina at a very high price, then donated it for the benefit of the ummah.
In the Battle of Tabuk, he contributed 1,000 camels complete with their equipment, and even 1,000 gold dinars. This attitude shows that a true leader not only rules, but also sets a real example in sacrificing for the people.
2. Gentle Leadership
Despite his great power as caliph, Uthman RA was known for his gentleness. He did not use violence to enforce rules, but rather emphasized persuasion and kindness.
This teaches us that leadership is not just about firmness, but also the ability to touch the hearts of those being led.
3. Expanding Access to Knowledge and Da’wah
During his leadership, Uthman bin Affan made a great contribution to preserving the purity of the Quran. He initiated the compilation and copying of a standard mushaf, which became known as the Mushaf Uthmani.
This decision was very important because it saved the ummah from division due to differences in recitation. Uthman’s leadership taught that one of the main tasks of a leader is to uphold the basic values that guide the ummah.
4. Steadfast in the Face of Trials
Uthman bin Affan’s leadership was not without severe trials, including slander and rebellion. However, he remained steadfast and was not tempted to abandon the principle of justice. Until the end of his life, he maintained his mandate as caliph even though he had to face enormous pressure.
Uthman’s steadfastness teaches us that a true leader must be prepared to face challenges, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Despite his wealth, Uthman RA was known for his simple lifestyle. He was not dazzled by position or wealth. This humility made him a respected leader, not because of his power, but because of his exemplary character.
