JAKARTA — In response to the “Global Strike for Palestine” movement, Dompet Dhuafa, together with a coalition of civil society organizations, joined in expressing concern and solidarity during a mass rally organized by KOMS (Coalition of Activists, Musicians, and Artists) Indonesia at the Horse Statue, Monas, Jakarta, on Tuesday (April 22, 2025). The support campaign for Palestine this time calls on the Indonesian government to take a firm and dignified stance in defending humanity and justice for Palestine.
“Palestinians do not need forced expulsion from their own land. They need a permanent ceasefire and access to real humanitarian aid. We urge the Indonesian government and President Prabowo to immediately take a firm stance in fully supporting humanity and opposing the genocide occurring in Palestine,” stated Eka Annash, Chairperson of KOMS Indonesia, in his speech that afternoon.

This series of mass actions began with the distribution of an online petition that has been signed online since April 14, 2025. This petition aims to urge the government to take concrete and decisive action against the genocide taking place in Palestine. The call for a declaration of stance and demands in a petition by INA for Palestine bit.ly/PETISIINAPALESTINA is as follows:
- Officially declare that Israel’s military aggression against Gaza constitutes an act of genocide and demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
- Mobilize active solidarity among humanitarian organizations, civil society, and international bodies to ensure unrestricted access for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
- Officially designate Benjamin Netanyahu as a war criminal under international humanitarian law.
- Exposing and ceasing all trade, investment, and other forms of cooperation between Indonesia and Israel, in accordance with the July 2024 decision of the International Court of Justice and the September 2024 resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
- Assisting in ending Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory and realizing self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Since October 2023 until now, the Israeli military aggression in Gaza has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians. The situation is getting worse and this is not just about numbers. Even during Easter at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, worshippers were subjected to violence and intimidation.
Ustaz Husein Gaza stated during his discussion that afternoon at the protest, “The true victims of occupation are those who do not feel like victims but cannot do anything. Perhaps we have already been colonized by the system and ideology that has been established today?”

The intense Israeli Zionist attacks have not only killed many civilians but also destroyed vital facilities in Gaza. Al-Shifa Hospital has suffered severe damage, while Kamal Adwan Hospital is now housing patients exceeding 300% of its capacity. One of Dompet Dhuafa’s efforts to assist the Palestinian people is by deploying ambulance units in collaboration with Indonesian partners.
“Casualties continue to rise. Some of our medical volunteer friends have also lost their lives. There is a severe shortage of medications, medical equipment, and even bodies piling up in hospitals, painting Gaza as a ‘medical hell’ at this moment. Over 370,000 Gaza residents have been forced to flee their homes, losing their livelihoods and struggling to survive without access to proper food and clean water,” explained Dr. Yeni, GM of Dompet Dhuafa’s Health Program, during an event at Monas that afternoon.

Also present was Kak Ojan, a content creator and storyteller, along with his son, who said that his son had been given permission to skip school that day to accompany his father to Monas for a solidarity action for Palestine. “If there is one lesson that is most important to teach our children today, it is the lesson of defending Palestine’s independence. Keep making noise, keep praying, and keep boycotting,” explained Kak Ojan.
‘Global Strikes for Palestine’ is a peaceful protest and demonstration held simultaneously around the world on April 22, 2025, including in Jakarta, centered at Monas. The event featured discussions with various figures from diverse backgrounds and professions, as well as musical and theatrical performances from various communities.
