Rajab Month: Here are 6 of Its Virtues & Efforts to Increase Righteous Deeds

Rajab month holds a special place and is filled with numerous practices that should be implemented. It is no wonder that many Muslims eagerly engage in fasting, reciting dhikr (remembrance of Allah), and drawing closer to Allah SWT during this month. But what makes the month of Rajab so special? Let’s explore this in more detail in the following article.

6 Virtues of Rajab:

  1. A Reminder of the Isra Mi’raj Event

The Prophet Muhammad’s spiritual journey to receive Allah SWT’s commands, particularly the recommendation for Salah (prayer), took place in Rajab. The extraordinary event of Isra Mi’raj is referenced in Surah Al-Isra, verse 1, which describes the Prophet’s night journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, ascending through the seven heavens. As Muslims, it is fitting for us to remember the month of Rajab for this significant event of Isra Mi’raj, glorifying Allah SWT who has shown His power and guided His servants to perform Salah.

  1. One of the Four Sacred Months in Islam

As stated in Surah At-Taubah, verse 36, Allah SWT emphasizes that Rajab is one of the sacred months (Haram months) in Islam, alongside with Zulkaidah, Zulhijjah, and Muharram. During these sacred months, Allah SWT prohibits His servants from committing vile acts, engaging in warfare, and other actions abhorrent to Him. Thus, Allah SWT instructs His servants to earnestly maintain faith, good character, and peace.

  1. A Month Full of Forgiveness and Mercy from Allah SWT

Allah SWT has honored Rajab and provided guidance for His servants to continually perform good deeds. As devout servants of Allah, we should seek forgiveness and pray for His continuous pardon. Additionally, we should strengthen our faith through prayer, especially in remembrance of the Isra Mi’raj. May Allah SWT grant us forgiveness and His mercy.

  1. A Reminder to Prepare for the Arrival of Ramadan

Rajab, being a month blessed by Allah SWT, serves as a precursor to Ramadan. Before entering Ramadan, it is fitting for us to prepare mentally for worship to become more devout and draw closer to Allah SWT. Reflecting on what should be done during Ramadan, use the momentum of Rajab for comprehensive self-evaluation, preparing ourselves mentally and physically for Ramadan.

  1. A Reminder to Enhance Spirituality

Considering Rajab is a sacred month with many virtues, we should strive to draw even closer to Allah SWT. This especially includes understanding the importance of Salah as commanded by Allah SWT in the event of Isra Mi’raj experienced by the Prophet Muhammad. Performing good deeds during Rajab, such as frequent dhikr, voluntary fasting, charity, and reading the Quran, helps enhance our spirituality.

  1. Rajab as a Reminder to Be More Compassionate Towards Others

Rajab, a month full of forgiveness and the spirit of drawing closer to Allah SWT, prompts us to increase our compassion towards others, such as through charity. Giving charity, InshaAllah, brings goodness and Allah will multiply the rewards for us. As Rajab is a preparatory moment for welcoming Ramadan, we should ready ourselves to be more compassionate towards others.

Giving Charity in Rajab to Increase Righteous Deeds

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (QS Al-Baqarah: 261)

With the many virtues of Rajab, we should always strive to increase our righteous deeds and piety. One manifestation of our deeds is through charity. May our charity bring us closer to Allah SWT.
