Shopping with Orphans and the Needy: Celebrating the Spirit of Eid with Dompet Dhuafa and Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia

JAKARTA –— Dompet Dhuafa, in collaboration with PT Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia, invited 50 orphans and underprivileged children to shop for supplies to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. Accompanied by volunteer mentors, they were very enthusiastic as they selected a variety of Muslim men’s and women’s clothing, sandals, shoes, and prayer accessories to welcome Eid.

This “Shopping with Orphans” (BBY) event was held at the Matahari Department Store Atrium Senen in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (March 11, 2026). Coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, this event serves as a tangible expression of strengthening the values of empathy, solidarity, and social compassion toward others, particularly for orphans and underprivileged children.

“Alhamdulillah, today we are able to collaborate in sharing kindness during the month of Ramadan. Because Sharing Is Kalcer! We hold this Shopping with Orphans event every year. We would like to thank Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia for supporting the ‘Shopping with Orphans’ event alongside these wonderful children here,” said Sulis Tiqomah, Chairperson of Dompet Dhuafa’s Ramadan 1447 H Committee, in her remarks.

Sulis expressed her appreciation to Matahari Department Store for having partnered with Dompet Dhuafa for 16 years in various activities throughout the month of Ramadan. She also thanked the volunteers who were willing to take the time to accompany the orphans and underprivileged children during their shopping trip.

“May this activity bring blessings and benefits to everyone. I recall a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that states whoever cares for and supports orphans will be in Paradise alongside the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), just like these two fingers (while gesturing with her index and middle fingers slightly apart),” said Sulis.

On the same occasion, Head of Marketing Communications and Corporate Branding at Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia, Ferawati Gondokusumo, stated that the Eid clothing shopping event for orphans and the underprivileged was a first for the company.

“We’ve shopped together before, but that was for school supplies. This time, the clothing selection is more varied, and the children are free to choose. I also accompanied one particularly expressive child,” she added.

While accompanying the orphans and underprivileged children as they shopped, he said, he was happy to see their beaming smiles. He hopes that this charitable collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and Tokio Marine Life Insurance Indonesia will provide a memorable experience for them.

Meanwhile, Achmad Fajar Nugraha, Store Manager of Matahari Department Store at Atrium Senen, expressed his pride in being able to collaborate once again to spread kindness alongside the orphans and underprivileged children.

“We have also prepared several teams to guide the accompanying adults and all the children on how to make transactions and shop at Matahari. This activity is also expected to serve as an experience and learning opportunity for all the children,” said Fajar.

When it was time to shop, the orphans and underprivileged children hurried to find the items they needed. They went with their mentors to the Muslim men’s and women’s clothing section. Some went to the school supplies section. Others looked for new sandals and shoes to celebrate Eid.

Happiness radiated from them. Smiles and excitement filled the air as they shopped for free. One of them was Muhammad Ibnu Al-Ghifary (12). He bought new clothes to celebrate Eid with his family.

“I bought new clothes for Eid. I’m so happy to have new clothes. I have some money left over, so I’m going to buy some snacks later. “Thank you so much, big sis, for bringing me shopping here,” said the fifth-grader.

Like Ghifary, Deska Arfan Ahmadi (13) also expressed his happiness after shopping. “It’s so much fun shopping with the older siblings here. I’m just really happy. I’m doing the same as Ghifary—buying new clothes for Eid. “Thank you, Tokio Marine, Dompet Dhuafa, and Matahari for inviting me to shop,” explained Arfan.
