The Harvest and Dompet Dhuafa Harvest Gourami Pond in Indramayu

INDRAMAYU, WEST JAVA — Dompet Dhuafa and The Harvest harvested gourami at DD Farm pond on Wednesday (15/3/2023) in Indramayu. This harvest was attended and witnessed by the Head of Social Trust Fund (STF), Dompet Dhuafa Dodi Subardi, Dompet Dhuafa Donor, Dr. Hajat Santoso, Head of Kenanga Village, Darpani, and Vice Chairman of Darul Arqam Mutualism Pokdakan, Badrudin.

On this occasion, Dodi, as the Head of STF, said that the implementation of the harvest was part of a series of implementations of the Tarhib Ramadhan Dompet Dhuafa program. One is the economic empowerment program in Kenanga Village, Indramayu, through the gourami empowerment program.

The ponds currently harvested are two ponds donated by The Harvest donors, with six beneficiaries in total.

“We would like to thank the donors who have entrusted their distribution through the Darul Arqam Mutualism Pokdakan and us as the implementer of the fisheries program. Not to forget, also to relevant stakeholders, especially the chief of Kenanga village, “said Dodi.

This program has been started since 2019 with the help of one pool. The following year it increased to two farms. In 2021, this program received assistance from donors from as many as eight ponds. Then in 2022, we again received assistance from two ponds from The Harvest.

In addition to the fisheries program, Dompet Dhuafa also carried out MSME training programs and MSME packaging manufacturing in 2022.

Hajat Santoso said that along the way to the pond’s location, he saw the extraordinary potential of the village. It starts from gouramis enriched with animal protein and fruits and vegetables such as mango, water spinach, Suri cucumber, and papaya, rich in vitamins and iron, planted around the pond. This potential can be utilised to improve public health, mainly to prevent stunting.

“This is a village potential that needs to be developed, especially in fulfilling and improving public health,” he said.

The Chief of Kenanga Village, Darpani, also expressed his gratitude and gratitude to Dompet Dhuafa and the donors who have supported this program for the people of Kenanga Village. He mentioned that Kenanga Village is growing and prosperous with the cultivation of gourami.

“We hope that Dompet Dhuafa and donors can always accompany us in the community’s welfare. This development is one form of successful initiation of the carp program in using less productive land and improving community welfare. Approximately 62 potential pools are ready to be developed and need support from relevant stakeholders. In addition, we are currently trying to develop the potential of other villages in the form of animal feed (sheep, cattle, poultry) through corn waste,” he explained.

In line with the chief, Badrudin said that Kenanga Village has the potential for dam management. He is grateful that since 2019, Dompet Dhuafa has been here to help empower rural communities through fisheries programs.
